Pakistan was major non NATO ally for USA. USA was not willing to be into Pakistan's internal issue. USA is a opportunist nation, While India was directly suffering thru influx of million of refugee.

USA never thought that India can open a war on Pakistan. It was surprise move (Coz till 1972 India never attacked Pakistan). USA was thinking that war may go for months. But due to distance pakistan surrendered in few weeks. USA had sent Fighters from Jordan, They were persuading french to send there fighter. UK and USA's Supercarrier were in the move.

If USA/NATO would have attacked on India, We would have lost millions of life (Both Indian and Pakistani). India would have slaughter lakhs of pakistani in BD to shift focus from BD to Pakistan and NATO. Thanks god war didn't last long...

Come on - I've heard this sort of thing a thousand times. It's a total no-win scenario.

1) U.S. intervenes somewhere. "How DARE they get involved with something that does not concern them?"

2) U.S. fails to intervene somewhere. "Curse them... if they had intervened, it would have saved lives."

People like U.S. efforts when it serves their needs. Hate it when it goes against them.

I'm not referring to 1971, but to this attitude in general.

Some where in the article there was a mention of Pakistanis being brutally honest and stupid at the same time. Your rant popped out that sentence in bold within my mind.

I am not convinced simply because I think even during the cold war the US was mightier then then the Soviets and transfer of sophisticated military hardware to PakMil alone would have guaranteed Pakistan's upper hand especially if PAF were to achieve total air dominance over IAF. USA did not really have any real interest in the region at that precise moment.

USSR allowed breaking of Pakistan in to 2 parts and a decade and a half later Pakistan shattered Soviet Union in to many little parts. If you ask me, USSR lost a whole lot by siding with India, had they been our friend they would still be in 1 piece.
