What's new

Indian writers guilty of double standards when it comes to dissent: Taslima Nasrin

You will do the first and then forget the second. You are neither secular nor a Bhakt. You are a special type. One that @vsdoc knows how to take care of. :D

How utterly impertinent and arrogant, to dictate to him what his future actions will be. It is more to the point that you learn some elementary balance from him.

The reason is simple.

Diss the bhakt and you risk a whacking or a face full of ink at worst.

Diss the Islamist and you run the very real risk of body parts being separated from torso.

Sometimes hands. Sometimes tongues. Other times the head.

Being a motormouth suddenly loses attraction very precipitously then .....

Understandably so.

Could I request you not to come in on a cab-rank of professional musclemen called on demand by the hard-core bhakts? This is just a request; I find your post demeaning to yourself and to what you represent.

If you haven't noticed yet, I am equally vocal against certain sadhus and sadhwis and their motor mouth compatriots. However, what mostly goes on in India in the name of secularism is another form of communalism.

Then we will start the party all over again.

Last year's Durgapuja was a dampener...this year it is again in full swing! :)

Police couldn't manage the crowd in Deshopriyo Park's Durgapuja with 88 feet Maa Durga, and closed the puja pandal itself. I am yet to see that puja. :(

Feast your eyes on pictures of world's tallest Durga idol because Kolkata police may not let you visit it - IBNLive

I agree.

You manage to confuse a lot of people by refusing to be put in a strait-jacket. While I don't always agree with you, it is with a genuine pleasure and a considerable amusement that I have been reading your posts.

Pujo'r shubhhechha.

I would prefer to speak on empirical evidence. Local, regional, global.

Sometimes it's enough to know that if you jump in front of a train, you get chopped. Based on the evidence of those who've done it before you.

You do not need to be invited to do the same to test the hypothesis once more.

Joe please understand. This is a 45 year old here. He's over the hill and set in his ways.

Happy Pujo to you and all bong brothers here.

I would love to know why our liberal intellectuals did not stand with Taslima Nasrin when she was being hounded out of house and home. What was the difference? And the answer " we did protest silently " will not work. They should have come on TV and protested in front of the nation.

Particularly during the first and most wounding act of servitude to the Islamic fanatics, the spineless surrender of the CPI(M) in West Bengal.

You didn't get it. I have no objection - OK, make that, I won't fight to the last ditch - when and if you have an opinion on a subject and let fly with both barrels.

Just don't become a hired assassin at the beck and call of the utterly putrid. It hurts to see you in that role.

I thanked your post because you put me in a role that does wonders to my middle aged mojo.

A Hindutvawadi Carlos. The possibilities are endless.

A spokespersonship to butt heads with Frothing Arnob beckons. Nunnis and pappus flying thick and fast on super prime time.

Will the nation ever recover?

Taslima Nasrin has already lost her home, and her country, and her second home in Kolkata, and now she might lose her "Intellectual" and "Writer" status after this interview! :)

Thank you and same to you...! :)

Writers, who recently returned their Sahitya Akademi award were mainly disappointed for the series of murders of social activists like Kalaburgi and the silence of the akademi which they thought should be vocal about those murders as an autonomous liberal body.

It is uncalled for to accuse them for selective protest against this government, asking why didnt they return the awards during emergency or '84 and most of all, ask them to stop writing by a minister. Nasrin, though right in saying that majority of the intellectuals were not much vocal to her cause, but she is wrongly accusing the recent protests to be selective.

It is not necessary that writers who thought it right to protest the murders would feel the same about TN.

Personally, I was enraged at the time, some eight years ago, just before I myself moved to Calcutta, and still feel resentful at the horrid demonstrations by rabid Islamists against her. As it happened, my circle of friends of the time were of the same mind. We really felt the pain of these violent events against free speech.

That's what everybody else is saying as well.

Some call it selective free will.

Many more call it hypocrisy and a hatchet job.

@scorpionx was actually writing in support of the protesting writers, and while appreciating TN's stand, pointed out that it was a slanted view.

Did you misunderstand his post?

Thanks for the effort in explaining. I understood him perfectly well.

Did you misunderstand mine perchance?

Quite possibly. For you to wax eloquent in support of the writers was entirely unexpected. That's why I thought I'd clear things up.

Explains my doubt.

You completely misunderstood.

The writers in question are putrid suppurating pustules on a pigs anal rim.

Foul environs make for foul droppings.
