The verdict on NJAC not only restores the credibility of the apex court but also reinforces its ability to introspect.
The judgment of the Supreme Court delivered on Friday striking down the Constitution (99th Amendment) Act, 2014 and the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act, 2014 by a majority of 4:1 is one of the most significant and everlasting contributions made by the Supreme Court restoring not only its credibility in the eyes of the legal profession but also in terms of its ability to openly introspect and notify suggestions for a better process of appointment of Judges.

Basically the Supreme Court slapped the politicians saying nobody can trust you; you will ruin Supreme Court.

This is much simpler commentary on the judgement just giving a layman's description. Honestly I fell asleep after going halfway through The Hindu Op-Ed.

But to be fair,collegium system also has its drawbacks.Judges can now appoint people of similar ideology and political alignment.It has the risk of making the courts an exclusive club of old men.Serious introspection is needed in this matter.

Personally welcome this decision , usually in other countries this is common practice legislative appointing judicial officials.But in India such is mistrust of politicians, we welcome decision of supreme court.

This proves we trust courts more than politicians we vote every five yrs.
