PESHAWAR: Pakistani authorities on Sunday accused the Indian army of cross-border shelling that killed a woman and wounded several other civilians in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir.

“A woman was killed and at least seven other villagers were wounded when Indian forces fired shells from across the Line of Control (Loc),” said local government official Masood-ur-Rehman according to AFP.

One the other hand the BBC Urdu website had quoted Rehman, who is the Deputy Commissioner of Kotli district in Azad Jammu Kashmir, as saying that the shelling from the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) had killed one woman and wounded nine other civilians.

The woman was the fifth Pakistani reported to have been killed in skirmishes across the LoC, which is the heavily militarised de facto border, since five Indian soldiers were killed on August 5.

Delhi blamed the August 5 killings on the Pakistani army, but Islamabad denied any responsibility and has called for restraint and dialogue.

Shells fired by Indian troops struck villages in Nakyal sector, some 200 kilometres south of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani Kashmir, intermittently overnight, Rehman said.

Three houses had been damaged and one house and a car destroyed, he told AFP by telephone.

Local police chief Chaudhry Majid confirmed the casualties and said shelling from the Indian side was continuing.

Javed Budhanwi, an MP from the area, said that Indian shelling had caused panic among more than 50,000 local residents and warned that authorities may have to evacuate civilians to safer locations.

“It is difficult for people to move out at the moment as the shelling continues,” Budhanwi told AFP.

The intermittent clashes threaten to jeopardise a planned meeting between the two countries' prime ministers on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York next month.

A deadly flare-up along the LoC in January brought a halt to peace talks that had only just resumed following a three-year hiatus sparked by the 2008 attacks in Mumbai that killed 166 people.

The biggest tragedy of Loc phenomena is, that civilians also got killed due to crossfire between the two opponents.
Possible measures must be taken to prevent such incidents, which may include that specific areas nears Loc where such incidents are recorded the most must be evacuated of civilians to prevent further loss of life of innocent civilians.
The government of Pakistan and India must resume their peace talks, for the sake of saving such innocent lives. We have to accept each others presence, the better we realize this and show the sense of responsibility, the better.

What does Pakistan foreign office has to say about it? Any statement so far?

Why not Pakistan call back its diplomats from India?

How can Indian posters be taken seriously when they provide no proof for their accusations.

How can they even have the ordasity to request a member to be banned on here.

They are consenting to the murder of Pakistani citizens. That should be an automatic ban on this forum.

The only proof they have is their bogus media reports who are habitual liars.
