Oct 23, Colombo: India fisheries officials have said that Sri Lankan Navy has attacked a group of fishermen from Tamil Nadu Saturday and forced their fishing boats to return to the Dhanushkodi shores.
Sri Lankan Naval personnel have allegedly tortured a group of fishermen from Tamil Nadu and threw four of them into the sea while they were fishing in their ''traditional'' fishing area away from Kachchatheevu, Press Trust of India reported.
Fisheries department officials quoting the fishermen have said that as many as 552 fishing boats were forced to return to the Dhanushkodi shores following the incident, the PTI report further said.
The fishermen have accused the Sri Lankan Naval personnel of damaging fishing nets of 15 boats torturing some fishermen asking them to carry ice bars on their head for two hours.
The Sri Lankan Naval men have also warned that they would take very tough action from tomorrow if the fishermen were seen in the area, the Indian officials have said.
The Tamil Nadu fishermen have alleged on several occasions earlier that the Sri Lankan naval personnel have attacked them when they were fishing in their waters.
However, the Sri Lankan Navy denies any attacks by its personnel on Indian fishermen.
India's Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai who visited Sri Lanka earlier this month sought a solution to the fishermen issue.
Mathai has especially discussed with Sri Lankan officials the constantly nagging issue of fishermen from both countries crossing each other's territorial waters.
Sri Lankan fishermen accuse Indian fishermen of crossing into Sri Lankan waters and stealing their livelihood.
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Ms. Jeyaram Jayalalithaa has urged Mathai to take up the fishermen issue with the Sri Lankan government. She has said that the incidents should be viewed as "an act of provocation and aggression" against India.
Sri Lanka : Indian officials say Sri Lanka Navy attacked TN fishermen

Actually these incidents are infact acts of provocation and aggression against India. Where is our navy and coast-guard ? WTF they are doing ? I mean place some vessels in that area and chase those SLN a$$holes if they provoke us. If not naval vessels, IAF also have airfield they can use their aircrafts, fighter jets to fire some rounds on these SLN vessels.
Someone should do something or i suggest TN government should take actions in their own hands. TN is a rich state, they can raise their own naval police which should carry out offensive action against SLN using choppers from time to time. Once the gets national attention, GOI will wake up from dreaming.
