Indian Army scouts 'Smart' artillery shells
By SP's Special Correspondent

August 19, 2014: The Indian Army is looking to procure 155mm Trajectory Correctable Munitions (Course Correctable Fuze) for its 155mm artillery guns, and to include 39/45/52 calibre equipment. Interested vendors have been sent a 34-point questionaire to identify all parameters of prospective systems, including dimensions and weight of Course Correctable Fuze, whether it has any limitations in operating in different types of terrain prevalent in India, the extreme atmospheric conditions in which Course Correctable Fuze can effectively operate, whether it is compatible with 39/45/52 calibre of 155mm artillery in service with the Indian Army, the maximum and minimum range achieved by firing Course Correctable Fuze with 39/45/52 calibre of 155mm Gun Systems, whether this fuze affects the minimum or maximum range of the standard HE projectile of 155mm gun system, type of guidance being used, accuracy (in terms of Line and Range), different modes of Course Correctable Fuze, efficacy in firing in High Altitude Area etc. The procurement has been accorded high priority by the Army, which will be looking to wrap up an order within 18 months.

So; have the IITs also come under the aegis of DRDO and OFB now? :cuckoo:

Young man

We are producing worlds best engineers and doctors cant they contribute to the nation by making modern arty shells.

Why all IIT engineers run to Infosys/wipro and leave country....iit engineers FEW YEARS AGO MADE A uv WHICH WAs shown in a Movie, now we are making it in volumes

I remember in 1979 when we produced first Indian made Arty gun 130mm , it was scrapped as Ruskis were Running the Ammo Mafia...

Old Crock.......
So you think that the biggest contribution that our Engineers and Doctors can contribute to the Nation by making modern arty shells??
I did my time in Uniform; but even by the biggest 'flights of fancy'; I did not think that I was doing anything extraordinary then....... :)

So then, Old Crock;
These IIT guys can serve the Country far better by sorting out issues related to Energy, Power, Irrigation, Infrastructure, Communication and so on than making arty shells!!!!!
Or; do you find that hard to understand? :D

p.s. Why do you usually make your posts in Extra Large, Bold Fonts?
Any age-related eye-sight issues, Old Crock?

Thank you...further proof that show how Russia has been marring our efforts....some Indian posters think Russia did anything wrong....they need to wake up...

Calm down...we can learn alot from each other...dont engage in such pettiness. IIT engineers flee at a moment's notice to get out of India. Thank Congress for making ZERO effort...

No dude, its got nothing to do with you. Its that funny guy who put on a 'patronising air' of trying to fob me off as "Young Man"....Lol, of course then he's definitely got to be an "Old Crock" to try to pull that off!

Now coming to the brightest IIT engineers; how will you stop them from going wherever they want to? By putting them in Jail......or into DRDO or in to OFB? That will be a fate much worse than going to Jail!!!

Some six months ago I visited the DIAT (do you know what that is?) at the invitation of its VC/Director and had an opportunity to interact with both Faculty and Students. Its an institute of some caliber, but nowhere near any of the IITs, not even matching up to some RECs. So there....
Its only private industry in India that can pull back some of the alumni of the IITs, and not by money or pay packages, not by a long shot. Those guys crave a good work ethic and atmosphere; how many Govt. Orgns. or PSUs can provide that?

Years ago a very bright student of one of the IITs finished his PhD in Berkely Calif. in FBRT. His faculty included Nobel Laureates like Dr. Glenn T.Seaborg etc. But he was idealistic enough to want to come back any which way. A family member of mine who was in the highest echelons of DAE introduced him to Dr.Vikram Sarabhai and he got to join the Research Team at Kalpakkam. That was the most frustrating period in that scientist's life. He finally switched to teaching at one of the IITs. I can tell you many more stories like that from CSIR, DRDO etc with name and all. But that is not the point. DAE and ISRO or IISc were great organistions at one time because the Directors then were great stalwarts who created a work ethos that encouraged great minds to want to come and work there. Relatively speaking ISRO has in recent times been in the news for the wrong reasons, in spite of its achievements.
How can you change that? By coercion; i.e. by legislation/regulation or by inducement i.e. by "moolah"?
Neither of them my friend, the best brains work best for recognition. Where is that to be found?

I have believed that Congress (like all political parties in India) are no icons. But only a FOOL will tie in Congress to whatever is wrong in the premier bodies in India. Congressmen are not DGs of DRDO or CSIR or OFB or Directors of TIFR or C-DAC or C-DOT or IUCAA. All of these bodies have scientists at the helm.
I have seen and talked to Scientist 'A's right upto to Dist. Scients. in DRDO, and I know what is OK there and what is not.

In short: do not let ignorance and rank prejudice get the better of you.
Regarding the Arty. mess; there are many causes for that, even AHQ cannot avoid major responsibility for that. While the recipe for that massive mess includes everybody from MoD right upto OFB.
One postscript on this: BMCS Ammo has been developed indigenously but OFB has not been able to manage the production, so the Lab that developed it is now manufacturing it as well.
Is that how it should be done?

For starters, do work on your spellings and syntax.
In the meanwhile; you do seem to have attended to your sight issues with some alacrity. I commend that.
Carry on.
