What's new

Indian Army finally starts rifle trials

So what?? You got the money, so you are building the weapon. We will induct the same after 3/4 years. We know your ground forces will have superior equipment for atleast a decade.
You are lagging behind, your soldiers will suffer from that. You are very lucky that Xi is not a war monger.

The only chance of pushing peace along the boder is we need to be ahead of you in military field.

Xi is not a mad man. Why would he try to create a hot hostile border and lose out on a lot more compared to a few square kilometers ? Xi is doing just what he can. no more no less.

Answer to your question is simple, Xi or any1 else, chineese leaders are not fool enough to engage in a war with India. Neither your USA nor we are Iraq. You cant just simply over run our defences. More over, wsr will cripple our economies & ever growing bilateral trade.
So keep clam & eat noodles

I'm cool man. Xi is a sane leader, I love the becoming modesty Modi shows in his recent visit to USA. He claimed that CHina is not a threat to regional peace, cordial and independant.

Modi is an elegant politician every one wanna work with.

Recently both side had retreated from the confrontation in Chumar area, i believe both leaders have absolutely control on Army.

India has the potential to become a powerhorse led by Modi, and you will find CHina is more like a opportunity than threat in the long run. Dragons and elephants shall live in peace.

If the border dispute could be solved, maybe we could co-develop OICW in the future.

Cheers to that. Indians in general doesnt consider china as enemy, nor have any hatred towards chineese people. Its our media that portraits china as evil, for TRP ratings of course. We were never traditional enemies. We are actually thankfull for having a neighbour who is developing in leaps & bounds, thus motivating us to do so.
ps: I remeber watching a documentry in Al Jazeera English after Indias Agni ICBM test. The Arab anchor & the american so called expert were repeating again & again, test being china centric & how both countries will love to go to war in near future, but chineese & Indian guest rejected those claims & congratulated each other for their countries success. You should have seen the anchors face. It was epic.

Reply to your Question is NO, because these systems are one of the most complex system in the defense industry,
Assault Rifles cannot have advance technologies involving complex electronics and system, and that what makes it difficult to design. Assaults Rifles have to be crude yet effective, that is why technology used in fifty's in rifle are still successful one because that era was of crude, reliable and rugged design, not involving complex matrix.

What most people don't understand that any rifle design has to be knockdown, that means each part of rifle should get separated without using any tools for its easy handling and maintenance, so good looking rifles are sometimes tough to clean and maintain so please don't judge rifle by its look.

Rifle quality depends upon its metallurgy which is again a complex science, every country has different weather and so is the level of reaction of Rifle's metal in different places, In simple words a rifle which is great in cold Serbia could be a junk in Iraq. And India which has a diverse areas with different weather, its tough to design an all weather rifle.

Another quality Rifle is judged by is range and caliber, with range of most assault rifles more or less same I would jump to Calibres, I think its really not important to have multi-calibre rifles, Tavors are multi- calibre rifles but I dont know a single incident where Security forces has intended to change the calibre of rifle for any operation, because its of no use.

There are many more factors, but I have quoted the most basic ones up here. May be senior members could add up more.

Our biggest problems have been with government run companies trying to build stuff. Give Bharat Forge the permission they want for making rifles & we will have a damn good one fairly quickly. Even DRDO designed rifles manufactured by Bharat Forge would take care of our problems. As will the artillery. We simply can't/refuse to see the capability that exists right here in India. Our procurement ideas are so damn stupid. We can consider buying from private foreign companies but make entry for private companies in India ridiculously painful. Between TATA, L&T & Bharat Forge, we could pretty much get whatever we want. Let them procure the technology & manufacture within India if the demand is substantial in artillery & small arms. How they go about it should be solely their business.

The border dispute was caused by UK, we have to pony up the bill they consume.

India shall give more chance to individual players, DRDO can't manage all the stuff. A man's home is his castle

Boarder issues will be solved in time. I have no doubt about it. Its Asia's time.

I think it would either Beretta or Bren
maybe you know more on that than indians ;)

but yes beretta is the frontrunner but most of the special forces and frontline troops love israeli tevor and chances are DRDO just might spun owt the bullpup version of there multi calliber platform and it might even be made in laks and both US and israelies are more than ready to help Govt of india on that (remmeber 49% FDI in defence manufacturing)

. . .
Interesting, isn't it? India sends mission to Mars but can't produce a rifle!!
