Mk-2 dubbed the MWF is another class similar to the F-16 weight category and is still in development. Currently HAL is planning to outsource more to private Indian defence firms to increase the rate of production and will start manufacturing the Tejas Mk-1A.

The LCA project even though had severe cost and timeline overruns, has helped us develop an aeronautical ecosystem i.e., setting up of the necessary labs and research facilities and collaboration with universities, research institutes and inclusion of private firms which would help us fastrack the development of MWF & AMCA. Also

Setting up an entire aerospace industry is a whole different ballgame even though firms like Tata etc are manufacturing several components for LM, Raytheon, Boeing etc

MoD/IAF is in talks with Russia to purchase 33 Mig-29s as a stop gap. It might also avail the clause to assemble 40 more Su-30s as part of the initial contract to fill in the dwindling numbers. Nevertheless, IAF's squadrons numbers will fall in the coming years due to retirement of Mig-27s & 21s.

MMRCA 2.0 is unlikely to happen given it would take atleast 5yrs for negotiations and another 5 by the time local manufacturing is setup and we receive our first aircraft. I'm sure by this time, most countries would be phasing out 4th gen fighters. It's important we focus on MWF & AMCA

These will be replaced by Mk1 and Mk1A. Mk1 currently has some of the best A2G scores in IAF, with no drawbacks that came with the old Bahadur.

yes, they will, tejas is their first main project so the delay of tejas project is acceptable, and they have vast aerospace industries as compare to Pakistan

It is not acceptable. It is just that folks in the subcontinent are so disorganised and poorly trained that LCA is finally coming to fruition now. Hopefully we'll learn from our mistakes.

MIG 27 fighter jets, which played a crucial role for the Indian Air Force (IAF) in the Kargil War, will take their last flight from Rajasthan's Jodhpur in December this year.

The last Squadron of MIG 27, 29 Scorpio, is based in Rajasthan's Jodhpur.

All the MIG 27 fighter aircraft in the Squadron will take their last flight in December this year after which they will be phased out.

An official source informed India Today TV that during an official ceremony in Jodhpur, scheduled for December 27 this year, these fighter aircraft will take their last flight.

The MIG 27 was inducted in the Indian Air Force in 1981 and after serving for 38 years, they will be decommissioned.

Three years ago, two squadrons of MIG 27 were phased out in Bengal's Hashimara and Squadron 29 is the last remaining Squadron of MIG 27 in the country, based in Jodhpur.

The MIG 27s have been involved in several incidents of crashes in the last decade.
