I don't think they even need j-20 against india.they already have j-10 in large numbers.j-20 is not tested in war like situation.it is forward stealth and long range fighter.it can be used against indian Navy rather than bombing on air bases.

Lots of cheer leading here. I I have said many times that J20 is not a 5th generation plane. Its quality can be judged from the fact that its designer was sacked. J 20 has no ingradient of 5th generation plane.

The new engine is required for supercruise and TVC not so much for stealth. A majority of stealth factor comes from reducing the RCS through the shaping of the aircraft, composites, and RAM coatings...on that front J20 isn't pending any upgrades like in the case of its engines. So it doesn't matter if India has Barak 8 or not, the only thing that matters when it comes to stealth is u have to be able to detect the aircraft on radar(ground/AWACS/etc) in order to be able to engage it.

The J-20 is not exactly a fighter, but more of an interceptor, similar principle to the Mig-25 in its day and age. The J-20 is stealthy were it needs to be; large enough to house the long range weapons to carry out strikes or knock out high value enemy assets, and guide its standoff systems from over the horizon. the J-31 is more of a fighter, and it seems the Chinese have realized they need a real fighter. so while the Indians are playing down the j-20 (the us is actively studying the j-20 and it doesn't discount the j-20; it understands it has potential and should not be underestimated); which is dumb (under-estimating a design still in development), the j-20 isn't the only platform they will face in any confrontation. The hundreds of J-10, J-11, J-16, Su-27, Su-35, and not to mention planned J-31s, the IAF will have to face, backed up with ever improving EW equipement to jam those SAMs the Indians are relying on, and the strategy to win when that need to win mission is given to the PLAAF.
