In A First, India To Be In Talks With Taliban At "Non-Official" Level

NEW DELHI:

For the first time, India will be talking to the Taliban but in a "non official" capacity during a multilateral meeting in Moscow on Friday.

Russia is hosting talks for peace in Afghanistan and has invited several countries including India, the US, Pakistan and China. The Taliban will also be part of the meeting.

"We are aware that the Russian Federation is hosting a meeting in Moscow on November 9 on Afghanistan," foreign ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in response to media queries.

India will be part of the talks at a non-official level and will be represented by Amar Sinha, who has served as India's Ambassador to Afghanistan, and T.C.A. Raghavan, former Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan.

The move by India came after Russian's Vladimir Putin visited New Delhi last month for a annual bilateral summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"India supports all efforts at peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan that will preserve unity and plurality, and bring security, stability and prosperity to the country," Mr Kumar told reporters this evening.

This will be the first time that India will be a part of talks with Taliban for peace in Afghanistan.

Russian news agency Sputnik has reported that invitations for the meeting, what is being called the "Moscow Format" talks, has also been sent to Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

COMMENT
In September, during the visit of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani PM Modi had said that India was committed to the Afghanistan government's efforts towards an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled peace and reconciliation process.

There you go. Our enemies willing to talk with them, meanwhile our society is discussing what line to toe. I wish we were more proactive, our government should be providing them open political support, instead we have ISPR asking Amreeka to stay in Afghanistan longer.

@Path-Finder
Here you go, I told you on the thread of Moulana Sami Ul haq's assassination that R&AW is behind this probably with the help of CIA to hold talks with Taliban but without the influence of Pakistan.

It is with ISI permission, so nothing out of the blue here.
I don't think so, Last week mysteriously Moulana Sami ul Haq murdered who have great influence over Taliban and now suddenly they have meeting in Russia and believe me Russians are very good negotiates especially creating peace between two parties but I am wondering why they are helping Americans to get rid of quick sand named Afghanistan?

The key word is " NON OFFICIAL "

If Taliban could be influenced to work in India's interest " non-officially " then India should sieze such opportunity

I always said that Afghan Talibans are the true stakeholders and must be supported by us.. And I used to say that when it was considered a cardinal sin on this forum and you would be labelled a terrorist sympathiser and get banned and negative ratings but my stance never changed and today USA and even Gangadeshis are talking about them as the stake-holders.

We should forge stronger relations with Taliban because all I see, they are the future rulers of Afghanistan for the foreseeable future.
