India To Begin Production of Nuke Missile

NEW DELHI - The Indian government has sanctioned serial production of an advanced homegrown nuclear-capable missile after a successful Sept. 25 test-firing of the Shourya, which can travel at a speed up to Mach 7.5.

The Shourya will be manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Ltd.

The missile, which was tested at India's range in the northeastern state of Orissa, can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads. It can be used by both the Indian Navy and Army.

The surface-to-surface missile was developed by the government's Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

The Shourya, with a range of up to 700 kilometers, can climb steeply up to 50 kilometers and then cruise quickly toward its target like a cruise missile, a DRDO scientist said.

"The missile cannot be tracked by any satellite and, as such, can strike the enemy target with surprise," the scientist said.

During the test, the Shourya shot up to a height of 40 kilometers at Mach 7.5, covering a range of 700 meters in 500 seconds, the DRDO scientist said.

The mobile missile can be launched from silos and canisters mounted on a truck. The missile is stored in Fiberglas composite canisters, to be easy to handle and easy to deploy on different surfaces.

Shourya is the land-variant of India's K-15 missile, which is launched underwater and is being fitted into the Navy's homemade nuclear submarine Arihant. The missile is 10 meters long, 74 centimeters in diameter and weighs 6.2 tons. Its two stages use solid propellants.

"Shourya can be used as a very good second-line-of-attack missile,"
said Mahindra Singh, a retired Indian Army major-general.

7.5M is very impressive if you consider the draggy low trajectory and the draggy fins on the vehicle and the fact that it is essentially a single-stage design. BMs this size and range usually do ~5M. How do they do it? Is it because the 0th stage imparts a supersonic initial velocity for the main engine/stage to begin from.

Lahsa the capital of Tibet is less then 600 kms from Indian border. So it will be very helpful for us in case of chinese attack/bullying.

Its India's most advance and futuristic missile it gonna replace Agni series of missiles, compact, fastest in speed, stealthy, anti BM tech etc. etc. and it will be standard missile for all platforms possible.

i.e. Army/Navy/ships/submarines/trucks/rail/underground etc. etc.

India gonna develop 6000 kms range missile out of it.

India is a defensive country, It will never fired to any country first, It will be used for second strike...

I hope our forces induct this missile in huge numbers just like Brahmos because its just like a hypersonic cruise missile and can be used in its place also without nuclear warhead.

the K-series missiles seem to have a faster induction rate than the Agni series.

Good going:tup:

The biggest advantage Shaurya enjoys over Agni 1 is that unlike Agni 1,Shaurya does not need a RV.So the whole place can be utilised for warhead and that's why Shaurya a can carry a much larger warhead than an Agni 1 as both have 1 ton payload capacity.

Congratulations on such an achievement.
On another note. Why would India want to attack Tibet, India always supported it. If i am not wrong, India support to Tibet and Dalai Lama was the main reason of India China war. At-least this is what we know in west.

Did India changed it foreign policy and stop fighting for Tibet right. sorry if its off-topic can anyone explain?

Do India consider Lahsa the capital of Tibet is a threat?

any news on K-4
I think 2 tests were conducted. One more test is likely to occur this year. Now when K15 is already under production and Shaurya production is also going to start, i think all focus will shift to K4 and Agni 2 prime.

Congratulations on such an achievement.

Lhasa the capital of Tibet is not our concern millitarily. Except for the PRC missile batteries and hundreds of underground missile silos, located in and around Lhasa are a direct threat to us. There have been reports that PRC has deployed new gen MRBMs in Tibet specifically against India.

Pentagon warns India of Chinese build-up

That is what he is refering to.
