India threatens BBC over rapist interview

So are you saying essentially there is a significant percentage in India that believes that rape victims deserve what they get?
I was talking about foreigners
Outsiders make fun of rape victims
And how is highlighting an issue point scoring?
example
This is point scoring not highlighting
People stoop to a very low level here
you as a mod should be the last one to ask that
It won't be long before Modi revises history as he did with GDP growth and claim that rape never happened.
Its like someone having bad breath and expecting everyone to ignore them until they decide to fix it themselves.
You don't have to go to someone else's house to tell him that
What you said is relevant when the guy with bad breath is talking with you.
this is not the case here
here we are culprits and we are the victims

If you count rape as per population. Rate of rape per person in uk is much higher.

So basically one stinky ignoring his own fowl smell and asking other to gargle some listrine.

Btw looking at Pakistani laws of rape. I don't even count them in league as a women will find it almost impossible to file her case.

Over 97% of rapes are never reported in India. Moreover, spousal rape is not considered rape in India, neither is rape by an upper-caste man against a lower-caste woman. Child rape cases are often ignored as well.

So you can't compare apples with oranges.

If you apply Western definition of rape, then India is a lot dangerous for women than almost every country in the world.

USA ( 316 M ) | rapes (total) = 84767 | rapes/100,000 people = 27.3
India ( 1.26 B ) | rapes (total) = 22172 | rapes/100,000 people = 1.8

India threatens BBC over rapist interview

India's home minister has threatened action against the BBC, after it aired a film in the UK featuring an interview with an Indian rapist on death row.

Rajnath Singh said he would investigate whether "norms have been violated".

Analysts say it is unclear what action he could take as the BBC did not show the film in India, where it is banned.

The BBC Storyville film features an interview with a man facing the death penalty over the 2012 rape and murder of a student on a bus in Delhi.

Mukesh Singh is one of four men sentenced to death for the incident, which caused shock and revulsion around the world.

In the interview he appears to show no remorse, and instead suggests the victim might have survived if she had not fought back.

'The bitter truth'
Although the film has not been shown in India, some activists were angry that he was interviewed at all.

Others were supportive and said the film should be shown to help spark the debate on rape in Indian society.

One woman was asked whether she feels safe in India: ''No, I do not feel safe at all''

The film was due to be shown on Sunday on the BBC and the Indian channel NDTV.

But the authorities banned its broadcast in India.

The BBC brought forward its airing of the documentary and showed it on UK channel BBC Four on Wednesday night.

"We had asked to not release the documentary, but BBC still released it," the home minister told NDTV.

"We will investigate and the [Ministry of Home Affairs] will take action accordingly."

The BBC had earlier defended its decision to move forward its broadcast, saying it would "enable viewers to see this incredibly powerful documentary at the earliest opportunity".

The corporation said the documentary "handles the issue responsibly and we are confident the programme fully complies with our editorial guidelines".

The family of the student who was raped and killed have also given their backing to the documentary.

Her father described the film as "the bitter truth" and said everyone should watch it.

"If a man can speak like that in jail, imagine what he would say if he was walking free," he told NDTV.

Although the BBC has only broadcast the documentary in the UK, versions of it uploaded by YouTube users have been widely shared in India.

YouTube said in a statement that it had complied with a request to take down a page hosting the documentary but users quickly posted other links to versions of the film.

The BBC said the independent production company which made the film is currently taking steps to remove illegal uploads.

You can use all the rape statistics you want but the issue is not whether rape is more in country x over country Y, but a bigger issue at stake.
other countries take rape seriously and no defense lawyer would come out nowadays and say "it's her fault for being soooo dammnnnn fine....." . Indian men take rape as a culturally norm but is now punishable because of world pressure.

Wow so you have machine to analyze Bharat men psyche?

So after 1 rape our capital has big mass protest and then passed a law regarding it which is not taking it serious in your library?

Perhaps if we sent tanks to those protest then you will call it taking seriously?

I did not say one rape. Many articles I read stated it is ingrained culturally for centuries though it is slowly changing for the better due to world pressure.

How is highlighting an issue making fun of it? That is ludicrous logic saying that anyone else who highlights a problem within our country is making fun of us. So if there is a problem where human rights are being violated, until we decide to fix it nobody else should say a word about it because we find it insulting(and not the very act of rape insulting).

It shows a very flawed mentality as a people, and almost indicated you are accepting of the act of rape until you yourself decide to deal with it when you find it offensive.. Someday.
