The Indian army’s casualties doubled in recent days, rendering the cost of ceasefire violations unbearable for the adversary, Commander of 10 Corps Lieutenant-General Malik Zafar Iqbal said on Friday.

Only 20 of our soldiers embraced martyrdom while they lost more than 40 soldiers,” the corps commander told a selected gathering of parliamentarians and journalists in Gilgit. The gathering was also attended by the region’s Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman, and Commander of Force Command Northern Areas (FCNA) Major-General Saqib Mehmood.

“If they violate the ceasefire during the day, we manage to settle the score before evening, but if it [the violation] occurs during night, we respond in kind before dawn,” said Lt-Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal.

Earlier, the corps commander visited the Khunjerab Top – the entry point of the multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) – where he inaugurated an ATM machine.

According to him, India had set up a special section within its intelligence apparatus for obstructing the CPEC. “But we are ready to foil the enemy’s nefarious designs.”

The corps commander, who visited the area 10 days after a sit-in was staged by a religious group on the Karakoram Highway, urged public representatives to settle internal conflicts through negotiations, instead of staging protest demonstrations on highways.

He said until recently, the government had been worried about the law and order situation in G-B, but the region was now one of the most peaceful areas in the world because of the combined efforts of government and public representatives. “This is all because of teamwork,” he said.

Expressing the hope for rapid development, the corps commander said: “Work will soon start for building a cadet college at Chilas and Gilgit-Skardu road after completion of formalities.”

“The army is determined to eliminate terrorism across the country,” he was quoted as telling the chief minister.

na kareen tau na kareen or i have already got 50-ve ratings and will cross the 50 mark if i say the bitter trut which the hosts dont want to hear and we all know how things work here and how in the real world specially in india and when media is out hunting for modi and his cabinets blood will they leave him if there are so many casualities ... but asumptions and ground realities and above all talking logic are all diffrent things here

Is he right about the Pakistan figure of 20 though? Or it's just a claim made by the Lt Gen?
I am not doing the counting

just consider this.. when both countries are shooting lead and fire at each other then there are bound to be losses. whether or not one side chooses to deny it ... is a different matter... there is no moral high ground for any side

it is violence in its raw form.. your army men are facing the same threats to their lives like ours are as the violence continues and doesnt see any end.. it will become hard to conceal or deny the eventual losses.

numbers are irrelevant and only a false cause of celebration for one side and denial of the other side. I have personally witnessed our flag staff meetings and exchange of bodies.. its a very serious and sombre matter of fact exchange in the absence of cameras.. respects are given to the fallen by the both forces and both forces retrieve back with their fallen. end of

when the internet was new and I was new to it then it bothered me how the internet nation trivialised the war and how they played it like a hollywood rubbish.. but now I am conditioned to it and I am not bothered the 99.999% posts by Internet commandos (0.001% is a gem and makes me laugh)

This is not how a Corps Commander talks. Only 20. As if carrots have been cut.

This interview has been reported by ET only and no other media outlet is reporting it. It is bad journalism by the writer. Corps Cmdr is not going to give a different figure from ISPR & Defense Minister / FO.

I don't think COAS, Corps Cmdr's and DG ISPR are going to release different figures. Then, what is the fun of HIDING own fatalities ??

How come figure of Twenty Martyrdom has been announced in a single go.

No Names No State Funerals

I believe he has said 'Indian casualties have doubled in recent days' and not this "Only 20" stuff.

In both ISPR press releases, the martyrdom of 9 (2+7) soldiers was announced with photos and names. Funerals of a few were shown live on TV. I don't expect PA to hide casualties. In today's world, it is actually very difficult to do so. The families have to be informed and this news will spread like wildfire on social media.

I have also seen some images of PA dead soldiers on social media and their names have been announced by ISPR.

this whole news may be fabricated. not reported anywhere else. Why do some pakistani newspapers pick news from unauthentic sources running on internet?

first the nation took a news from some blog and published it that indian defence minister accepted 13 deaths.
just like few indian newspapers we have 3rd class media too.

Is he right about the Pakistan figure of 20 though? Or it's just a claim made by the Lt Gen?
neither claimed by general nor is true. few newspapers are quoting from blogs. it's not reported anywhere else.

As far as i know, they have accepted some 2+7 losses, till now. How come 20 suddenly?? 40 losses Indian side still proves that we have been very lucky, by 10:1 formula, it should be 20x10 = 200 lost on our side;)

Because the source is not genuine. It is from a blog. So may be just as credible as indian media outlets.
