India is stepping up its efforts to promote military-to-military ties with China, despite Beijing’s continuous diplomatic and political spat against Delhi.

The two countries are now setting up for their annual ‘Hand-in-Hand’ (HiH) combat exercise at Aundh, Maharashtra, from November 15 to 27. This will be the sixth edition of the HiH exercise, which will see participation from over 170 troops from the Tibet Military Command of People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

India remains concerned about China’s major upgrade of military infrastructure along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) coupled with PLA’s growing footprint in Azad Kashmir in support of Pakistan.

To make matters worse, China has also blocked India’s bid for Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) membership as well as stalling Delhi’s move to designate Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar as a terrorist by the UN.

China this week said that “no country should pursue its own political gains in the name of counterterrorism” in what India’s jingoist media said appeared to be a reference to New Delhi’s global campaign to get Pakistan declared a ‘pariah’.

China’s Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong said no country should have double standards on terrorism or use it for political gains. Though he didn’t name any country, the Times of India newspaper said Beijing “added insult to injury by accusing New Delhi”.

“There should be no double standards on terrorism nor should one pursue its own political gains in the name of counterterrorism,” Li said while replying to a question on criticism about China’s move to stall India’s bid for a UN ban on Maulana Masood Azhar, the head of Jaish-e-Muhammad militant group, which New Delhi blames for being behind the January attack on its air force base in Pathankot.

While the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan remains volatile with almost daily exchanges of fire, the LAC has not witnessed a single shot being fired for decades. However, troop incursions across the India-China border continue unabated with over 200 such incidents being recorded this year.

Why not.

We had a level of military relationship with the US when they were best buds with Pakistan during the 80s too.

The military confrontation angle must never come between these two countries today and in future (India and China), the world will suffer from it.

We welcome this move and have no objection of any sort. Both China and India should be engaged at every level they want to. Now can we plz ask U to show same level of maturity and open mindedness in return?

This is hypocrisy at it's best, India selling it self to west and it's allies as China containment partner and building it's military in name of against Chinese capability, preparing for future war with China, preparing for 2 front war, selling weapons to countries who are in row with China, supporting SCS dispute against China list goes on n on.

Chinese are not fools they know what India is upto.

Sure but it will need time, more economic growth and development so more people become invested in their respective countries in a positive way and then the areas of conflict and mistrust will seem like old vestigial memories and they will be solved pragmatically and responsibly.

I am seeing that each newer generation has less severity of hate/mistrust for the other...take for example my sister who has no real dominating negative opinion of Pakistan at all (and compare to my father who is typical Pakistan hater). I am not going to teach my kids to hate Pakistan instinctively, and I would hope the same in reverse as much as possible.

That way we can finally be good neighbours. We owe it to ourselves more than anyone else.

I agree with each and every word of yours. Factually speaking the main cause of so called hatred for each other in both countries is media. Previously it was only Indian media who was doing so on their side but when our media saw, that its fetching higher ratings there so why not try it here and here we go same things had started here too. But yes the younger generation on both sides is more goal oriented and are literally least bothered about such things. All they want is that they shud get conducive environment where there shud be not obstacles in their way to achieve their goals.

China’s straight talk leaves India reeling

BEIJING: China said on Monday that “no country should pursue its own political gains in the name of counterterrorism” in what India’s jingoist media said appeared to be a reference to New Delhi’s global campaign to get Pakistan declared a ‘pariah’.

China’s Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong said no country should have double standards on terrorism or use it for political gains. Though he didn’t name any country, the Times of India newspaper said Beijing “added insult to injury by accusing New Delhi”.

Li was speaking to reporters on President Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to India for the 8th BRICS summit in Goa on October 15 and 16. The BRICS group of emerging nations includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

“On counterterrorism, the five countries have consensus. The foreign ministers of the five countries reached an agreement on the margins of the United Nation General Assembly. We hope and believe this Goa summit will build on the consensus and continue to strengthen cooperation on counterterrorism and other issues of political security,” Li said.

He added: “Counterterrorism, it is also important area of cooperation among BRICS on political security. Cooperation on this front will enhance BRICS coordination and contribute to world peace and security,” he said.

He said China’s position on counterterrorism is consistent and that “China opposes all forms of terrorism”.

China’s vice foreign minister also said that his country was willing to discuss ‘possibilities’ with India on its bid to become a fully-fledged member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

India last month said it had held ‘substantive’ talks with China on its attempt to join the NSG, a 48-member grouping of countries that trades in civil nuclear technology. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is campaigning to join the NSG to back a multibillion-dollar drive to build nuclear power plants in partnership with Russia, the United States and France, and reduce India’s reliance on polluting fossil fuels.

Yet his bid to win accession to the group, founded in response to India’s first atomic weapons test in 1974, has failed to win over strategic rival China, which enjoys a de facto veto because it operates by consensus.

Li said new NSG members needed to be agreed upon by all existing members. “These rules were not set by China,” Li said. “On the issue of joining the NSG, China and India have all along had very good communications, and [China] is willing to have further communications with the Indian side, to increase consensus,” he said.

“On this, China is willing to jointly explore all kinds of possibilities with India, but this must accord with the charter of the NSG, and certain rules need to be respected by all sides,” Li said, without elaborating.

The nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) recognises the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council – the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France – as nuclear weapons powers but not others. India has ruled out signing the NPT but says its track record of non-proliferation should entitle it to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group.

India was granted an NSG waiver in 2008 that allows it to engage in nuclear commerce, but deprives it of a vote in the organisation’s decision making.

China is still not worried about India, this from China's main strength is still focused on it can be seen in the east.
All secondary forces stationed in Tibet, by the way, beat India's invasion in 1962, is China's second line forces.

NaMo policy, India will do defense business with all nations wiling to do.
China is no exception.
