India space launch: One rocket, 29 satellites, three orbits

It is not for me but for Indians to decide whether they wish to spend their resources on such ventures instead of meeting the basic requirements first.
What I said, is the mindset of Indians. Else there wouldn't be an ISRO. Do you see any dissent voice among Indians against our space researches? Indians and our media are critical of almost everything GoI does, (there are always dissent voices), neither of which are targeted at ISRO.

Our spending in space research is nearly half of what we spend on subsidies alone forget other welfare programs. Adding a 1-2Billion dollars/year for welfare of 1.4 billion people will be a drop of water in the ocean.

Who is Hanwant Singh ??

You are right .
But just think about the other side.
We in India have a lots of channels ,medias etc all of them are direct beneficiary of space program .
4th pillar of democracy .
And it is actually strengthen democracy.
If there was no such thing we were forced to spend like we are now doing for buying oil .
In addition crores of jobs .
Its application in almost all segments including agriculture .

That is why some Indians not that much support Manned program .
Because there is no use and application .

Now we are doing commerical launches .Good for business.

Commercial satellite launching is a good business to get into, yes, but what price basic education, clean water and sanitation for all first?

5 years of our Swatch Bharat campaign already cleared a lots of problems .
Problem is not funding but behaviour of people .
For that you need awarness .
For Education and Food we have world largest social welfare program .
More than 70 billion $ something .

Spin off of technology is incredible and helps you a lot.
Vietnam should try something like that .

I can see the benefits too as you mention, but it is for Indians to decide how much to spend and where, and for what benefits. My personal opinion is that basic social development should have a higher priority than such programs.

Our space budget is 1.4 billion $ .This is not going to do any change in basic development if we alloted that money for
Development .
Its just a fractional amount only .
But return is great since it is in space segment

A manned Mars settlement program will have a great impact back on Earth, especially in a socially backward country like India.

And as I said, it is up to Indians to decide that. How much would it cost to supply clean drinking water and sanitation services to those who do not have it now?

Shouldn't clean water and sanitation come first?

Shouldn't clean water and sanitation come first?

And they will not get the water or sanitation if we spend this money for it .
Billions are spending for sanitation .

.
Shouldn't clean water and sanitation come first?

Agreed, but those two things are a matter of redirection of resources.

Also, sanitation is more a thing about mindset of people. Even now I see men openly relieving themselves against some wall, without any shame. Plus, there are very few public toilets in Indian cities so can't blame the people entirely.

Now if India spent money more on sanitation than on buying weapons, that would be money well spent. Plus, educate people on sanitation.

Also, as @SrNair said earlier, the spin-offs from space technology will help people back on Earth.
