I lived in Tuticorin during the height of the SL civil war. I was one of those who protested about the Mullivaikkal massacre. I know for a fact that no one except a few on Facebook cared about the war. The day Mullivaikkal happened our Tamils were very much worried about the prospects of CSK because IPL tournament was underway. Except for one guy I worked with, no one else I knew in person cared, and even that one guy told me "nAma enna panna mudiyum baasu?"
There were ofcourse a few students who protested in Coimbatore. What happened afterwards? Universities declared leave and all college students went home very happily.

I know more about Tamil nationalism than you think. I have met Vaiko and Suba.Vee in person. I have interacted with many Sri Lankan Tamils. Now I don't care anymore because, I have grown out of those misconceptions about Tamil nationalism planted in me as a teenager.

In Chennai Poor school kids were taken out of public schools and made to stand out in the rain, were laughing and for most part just happy to miss class, as part of a "human chain" protest. Meanwhile 2g scam was going big in the center, it became a convenient way to distract attention.

During the war, Sebastian Seeman, "Human rights" defender was happy shooting movies with sinhala actors...and then suddenly became interested afterwards

In short your question is, we are not concerned about Tamil literatures related to Hinduism and we speak proudly about tamil literature related to other religions like Islam, christianity ... There have been numerous books disproving these guys. Even the Aryan-Dravidian theory has already been disproved by science. The theory had its origin in the imagination of German and French linguists and it died with proof from modern science and DNA analysis. Caste existed in every society. Japan had the Shoguns, the Samurais and the peasant caste until 1840s. In the USA even until 1960s Jim Crow laws and segregation was in effect. African Americans cannot go to a white church or even a white school then. In Hindu religious scriptures there was only a Varna system, which was akin to meritocracy in ancient Greece and China. The Jati system was introduced only through Manusmriti which was not a religious scripture but a law-code. If you can attribute casteism to Hinduism, why not attribute slavery and racism to Christianity?
