India must not politicise cricket: PCB Chairman

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan said India should not politicise the game of cricket.

It may be mentioned here that PCB had signed a MoU with BCCI to play six bilateral series between 2015 and 2023. Four of those series were to be hosted by Pakistan and the six tours pending a legal agreement will include up to 14 Tests, 30 ODIs and 12 Twenty20s.

The first of these bilateral series was to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year in December but it did not happen as the Indian Government didn’t give a green signal to the BCCI for the series.

Recently PCB had also demanded financial compensation from BCCI and ICC for losses incurred due to India’s refusal to play bilateral series against them.

Speaking to media, he said we will not request India to play Pak-India series. “We will have a clear cut talk with India on the matter of the Pak-India series,” he said.

He said India has violated the MoU of Pak-India series.

“Indian government does not want the Indian cricket team to play with Pakistan. Pakistan will present its point of view on the matter in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting,” he said.

Everything is going to be politicized with Modi in charge. Cricket, water, the air that we breathe etc.

Yes Indeed....True patriotism...

Why so? Both the US and USSR have boycotted the Olympics. Cricket is nothing.

Not doing yourself any favor by being hotheaded. LOL You will be on the losing side.

We are not the ones on the losing side. Thanks.

PCB wants Pak cricketers playing in India. Why should we allow that?

Stop terrorism and things will go back to normal.

I said the same and just appreciate your opinion. I think i didn't say otherwise

When it comes to Pakistan, everything should be politicized.

The current disease of my country where absolutely everything in life, is now looked at through a political lens. That's what happens when people become so arrogant and hyper-partisan that they no longer think that those who have different ideas than they do, are not just simply wrong, but must be inherently evil. It works well in dehumanizing those you find disagreeable.

Sport is at least one place, where gentlemanly behaviour and respect for the dignity of others, prevails.

My bad, I thought you were being sarcastic, which seems to have become the norm here.

Is Mexico sending terrorists across your border to attack US citizens?

Be realistic.

What my govt did is right. And the boycott has huge public support in India.

Even BCCI is fine with it, so there's no reason to complain.

We have banned their actors and artists from performing in India as well.

The Pakistanis themselves don't want a normal relation with us, so why should we take the high road? I don't see no gentlemen across the border.

Well, if they are truly sending terrorists across your border, then break off relations and declare war as if what you say is so, then they are already committing acts of war against you.

As to the two Olympic boycotts, I think that just bolsters my case. Both were silly (as it is in this case: "You've attacked our country with armed terrorists, so no more throwing balls at your batsman!" "That will teach you a lesson!") and utterly ineffectual, hurting only the athletes who just wanted to compete in good sportsmanship.

Unfortunately, we can't run around declaring war against a country that has nukes and a lot of outside support.

It creates national solidarity. You may remember how good the public opinion was during the Vietnam War in the US. If you don't have public support, you're nothing in a democracy.

What do you think happened after Turkey downed a Russian jet? The Russians stopped tourism to Turkey. Completely unrelated, right?

I remember that boycott quite well and national solidarity was the last thing it created. Despite initial public poll support, that quickly evaporated and it was disastrous to the Carter administration. His boycott was the subject of late night talk show jokes. Carter was perceived, (correctly), as a weak and ineffectual leader. It divided the country, not unify it.

No, not unrelated, but completely useless as well.
