slamabad, Mar 9: Unless India honours the Indus water treaty, Pakistan will face a severe water shortage in a few years, a minister warned on Monday.

The treaty, signed with India in 1961, stipulates that the flow from the three western rivers -- Indus, Jhelum and Chenab -- will be for the exclusive use of Pakistan while the three eastern rivers -- Ravi, Sutlej and Beas -- will be for India's use.

Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif said Pakistan wanted to resolve the water issues with India, Dawn online quoted him as saying.
"We will contest our case at an appropriate forum if India encroaches upon our water rights," he said.
The minister said the government would resolve the issue of power cuts within three years. But at the moment, Pakistan was headed towards serious water shortage.
He warned that Pakistan could face a severe drought in some years and said the country was not prepared to handle such a situation.
Water scarcity, he added, was a long-term problem and cannot be resolved in two to three years.

We are not responsible for Pakistani Incompetency
They should provide some proof & if there isn't any then they should stop wasting our time

Indians do not believe in the concept of WMD and water terrorism ...but we have the right to exploit our natural resources...for our...ever growing needs...and indus is one of the few river which has not been exploited yet.

It allows Jammu and Kashmir to use the waters of Indus, Jhelum and Chenab
If the population of Jammu and Kashmir keeps growing Pakistan is going to get lesser water

India on humanitarian grounds must end this new plan of Water terrorism directed towards Pakistan.

Look at the topographical map. India cannot even divert the Indus waters even if it wanted to. It is almost the same situation with Jhelum and Chenab. India can build storage facilities for hydroelectricity generation. At some point the water has to be released downstream to Pakistan

The whole crap about India violating the Indus water treaty is about water mis-management in Pakistan

i am sure Indians will not honor ..
Have you honoured shimla agreement ? Its two way street ..Having said that have we pumped water from these rivers to other part of our country ? If you have any evidence then you can show it before court ..right ?
Being a responsible country we honour our mutual agreement ..But you have given us a choice with your dont care attitude to other agreements

Simla agreement impacts only the governments

Indus water treaty affects the common man in Pakistan. As I mentioned previously where can India even divert the waters ? Beyond generating electricity we have no use for those waters

it is one thing to divert some water to a major city. it is another thing to divert the entire river.

building a pipeline in mountainous region to move lots of water is not cheap. it is not impossible for the Jhelum and Chenab.it is almost impossible for the Indus river
