India May Add Japanese Soryu-Class Submarines to its Fleet

More like a zoo

I don't think we will be going for all of them.

IAF made that costly mistake and in 90s we were suffering for it.

Maximum we will have two types of subs; French-German, French-Russian or French-Japanese.

.
You forgot Russian Nepra class and Indian Arihant Class. Ofcourse they are nuclear.

not Nerpa but Akula class and of course Indian Arihant class but they are SSNs, here we are talking about diesel-electric submarines.

. .
Soryu class is a beast!!! I think it will be best for us. Armed with Brahmos-H they will be a kill. But MoD should be fast, our submarine fleet is depleting.

I dont think Japan will allow us to integrate Brahmos with Soryu, even if they allow, Russia may obeject.

BTW what is Brahmos H

Why will Russia object? We are the ones who are buying majority of the missiles right now. More BrahMos for India means more money for them as well. Like that Harpoon deal we are doing which doesn't seem right when we already have ship capable BrahMos missiles.

Oh man, looks like Parikkar has his job in front of him. To get Soryu into IN, he will have to convince Nakatani, Abe and the way articles are being written, even emperor Akihito .

@Nihonjin1051 san, any comments? Do you think Tenno Haika would approve should it come down to this? :)

Not to mention negotiate with Russians to some level.

What is Brahmos H?

The Hypersonic version that is right now being developed. It will be able to hit targets between Mach 5-7.

At that speed, it will be invincible.

Imagine what it could do when we put a small tactical nuke warhead on it. :D

Any link?

It has been in testing stage for 3 years. The initial date was expected to see it in service next year or 2017 max.

BrahMos-II or BrahMos-2 or BrahMos Mark II (note: not to be confused with BrahMos block-2) is a hypersonic cruise missile currently under joint development by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia'sNPO Mashinostroeyenia, which have together formed BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited. It is the second of the BrahMos series of cruise missiles. The BrahMos-II is expected to have a range of 290 kilometres (180 mi) and a speed of Mach 7. During the cruise stage of flight the missile will be propelled by a scramjetairbreathing jet engine.[1][2] Other details, including production cost and physical dimensions of the missile, are yet to be published.[3][4][5] It is expected to be ready for testing by 2017.[6]

That's what was written for a very long time since 2012.

However, we are already at a very advanced stage of it according to an interview by Dr. Pillai (the previous BrahMos chief who retired last year). That simply means we will be getting it on time. Besides, even if Japan is convinced to give the Soryus to us, it will take quite some time before we can get the final product.

Japan would have actually hit a jackpot if they think from pure industrial point of view;

- Strong historic relations with India.
- Never been in any conflict against each other (if you ignore WW2 which was actually against the British).
- Strong cultural links with them.
- Share a similar threat.
- Have been a peaceful country for many years.
- Have a proven record of non-proliferation of tech and nuclear know-how.
- Have pioneered many peaceful nuclear technologies and have yet never harmed Japanese interests.

.
If we buy Soryu that will also take time.

1) If Japan ready to sale.
2) If we select it.
3) Detailed negotiation with ToT.
4) Deal signed.
5) With all the delay expected ... you can understand. By than Brahmos H will be ready.

Scorpene deal signed in 2006 and It may be inducted in 2016!!! Bloody congressi losers.
