India, Israel discuss defence deals

Military deals including a key missile development programme and procurement of two more AWACS aircraft are understood to have been discussed betweenIndiaandIsraelduring Defence Secretary R K Mathur's ongoing three-day visit to Tel Aviv.

Mathur is leading a defence delegation to Israel to review the ongoing and future joint defence cooperation projects between the two countries in the meeting of the Joint Working Group there, defence ministry sources said here.

The two sides have close defence ties and Israel is one of the largest weapons suppliers to India after Russia and has provided it with sophisticated systems such as the long-range radars for the anti-ballistic missile defence system and the Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) aircraft.

The Long Range-Surface to Air Missile (LR-SAM) project being jointly developed by the DRDO and the Israeli Aircraft Industries (IAI) has been delayed by several years due to some reasons and its status is understood to have been discussed by the two sides.

IAF's plans to buy two more Israeli-made radars for its AWACS programme is also understood to have been discussed by the two sides during the meeting.

The Israeli side has also been pushing India to go for procuring its Iron Dome air defence system for protection against threats from short range projectiles including rockets and small range missiles.

A number of DRDO projects are also going on between India and Israel, in which critical components are provided by the Israeli firms.

Recently there were some talks that it can be used in battle zone to give cover for the advancing Indian Army from Pakistan's

useless i would say, india has long border unlike israel who just has 35 km stretch in gaza to protect itself from any attack compare to india almost 10000+ km with enemy on both side of the border

useless i would say, india has long border unlike israel who just has 35 km stretch in gaza to protect itself from any attack compare to india almost 10000+ km with enemy on both side of the border

Nasr is a tactical nuclear missile with 60km rang, it was developed to fire at the advancing Indian army. This was the reason India was reconsidering to buy it. To deal with other Nukes from Pakistan India already developing Anti ballistic Missile programs named PAD and AAD

That's not the point. We some have crude rockets coming from Pakistan or China.
We have terrorists coming in on ine side and intruding soldiers on the other, as well as pesky pole vaulters.

Iron dome cannot make them vanish. But an armed drone with missiles can.

Irone dome has no importance for us and former Air Chief Browne confirmed that, but he also stated interest in David's Sling missiles, since we do have the requirement for long range interceptor missiles for cruise missiles for example. The problem however will be the US techs in it, which makes US approval necessary and we have seen several deals being in trouble because of that.

well isn't the cost of missile 40k, that's a huge amount for an interceptor
