India draws bottom line for Rafale

It's nothing to do with not considering inflation, this matter of price is a non-issue and the Indian side has never had an issue with the cost. The "hold up" was initially to do with the workshare agreement, once this was addressed the matter of liability has been a point of contention. Finally this matter looks like it is close to being overcome also and then closing this deal will literally be nothing but a formality.

But according to the article, price is now the sticking point. Is France doing a AC vikramaditya repeat? Trying to screw India over?

This is pure BS from ToI who just a few weeks ago ran this story:

India inks a deal for supply of 24 Rafale aircrafts

Excuse me if I don't have time for this nonsense.

The deal is progressing on all fronts that much both sides have made clear, anything the media tries to spin now is just mindless speculation.

.
So what is the hold up? Why won't India consider the inflation?

Inflation is negated by technology obsolescence over time.

Second delay is due to Dassalut not having negotiated the deal with HAL before hand. GoI is not responsible for that, so it would not pay extra for that.

Finally, L1 price is final. Congress govt. may have paid more than that, there is NO chance of Modi doing that. If the deal goes down, it will be on L1 price or it will not be signed.

.
No one is saying it won't impart a sense of urgency, I'm just saying there is no way it will be signed during this visit (no such deals are ever signed during these visits) all recent news is this deal is reaching its conclusion. It seems that in the absence of any news on this subject ToI (the respectable media outlet it is) has simply rehashed old analysis and not actually stated anything new.

Because the delays are (largely) their fault- failing to ,initially, agree to the RFP.

Alas, this drama will be over in a few -weeks one way or another- so no point in getting too heated up over it now.

Rafale deal will sign in near future.Entire formalities are fixed and clear .One of my friend who works in HAL told me that.According to him only formality is just a sign.

Hi
Because Rafale is replacing other jets now, and from 2-3 years from now F 18 Will start to get replaced by F 35. Plus we do not get TOT of engines and Radar(the one used by US navy). And add to that, despite whatever is said Americans for f18 being the best, we know it's not.
I stand to be corrected if wrong.
Cheers
Thanks

The matter that complicates the deal is India asking France to guarantee the Indian produced Rafales, which France refuses to do. The pricing scheme(s) further complicates the matter at hand.

Don't think you can say cost was not an issue. This was a competition & L1 was determined based on the figures given. Any change in L1 figures might cause it to be higher than L2 which would put the government in a difficult position of having to explain why L1 is costlier than L2. Nobody wants to do that.
