Additional Secretary (United Nations and Economic Cooperation) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tasneem Aslam on Tuesday said that India is developing atomic submarines, Radio Pakistan reported.
Addressing a seminar in Islamabad, Aslam claimed that India is building its atomic stockpile 'day by day'.
"In these circumstances, Pakistan has no option but to keep itself ready for defence," she said, adding that Pakistan is maintaining minimum deterrence.
She also said the Indian leadership's "irresponsible statements" pose a threat to regional peace.
The additional secretary warned that the regional balance of power would be disrupted if India is granted membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
She alleged that although India accuses Pakistan of terrorism by means of non-state elements, the Indian government has been found involved in terror activities.
The additional secretary claimed Pakistan has evidence that India's Research and Analysis Wing is responsible for carrying out terror activities in Pakistan.
Speaking about the Heart of Asia conference held in Amritsar earlier this month, Aslam claimed India had placed diplomatic hurdles in the way of Sartaj Aziz, special adviser to the prime minister on foreign affairs.
"But despite India's attempt to sabotage Pakistan in the conference, we were able to reassure Afghanistan about building peace in the region," she said.
"It was because of Pakistan's presence that India was unable to hijack the conference," Aslam claimed.
Aslam's statements come just a day after Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh said Pakistan would "soon be in 10 pieces" if cross-border terrorism did not come to an end.

Tensions between Pakistan and India have been running high following an alleged 'surgical strike', unrest in Kashmir and the Uri army base attack in September.
Since then there have been repeated outbreaks of cross-border firing in Kashmir, with both sides reporting deaths and injuries including of civilians.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepped up a drive to isolate Pakistan diplomatically after the Uri army base attack in Sept in which 19 Indian soldiers were killed. Hours after the attack occurred, Rajnath Singh termed Pakistan a 'terrorist state' and accused Pakistan of involvement.
The Uri attack occurred days before Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was set to address the United Nations General Assembly regarding Indian human rights violations in held Kashmir.
Following the attack, India claimed it had conducted a cross-border 'surgical strike' against 'launch pads of terror' in Azad Jammu and Kashmir — a claim Pakistan has strongly rejected.
Pakistan maintains that India is attempting to divert the world's attention away from atrocities committed by government forces in India-held Kashmir.
Pakistan and India have, most recently, locked horns over Kashmir since Indian forces stepped up a crackdown against protesters after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed by government forces in July.

  • Nuclear sub powers India into elite club

Controller of warship production and acquisition in the Indian Navy vice-admiral GS Pabby refused to answer questions about the submarine at a function here. He, however, said an interaction will soon be held to answer all questions on the submarine.

“There will soon be an opportunity to talk about it,” Pabby said.

Other officials too declined to comment on the matter. However, a few indicated that the vessel was now part of the naval fleet, without divulging the exact date of induction.

Former navy chief admiral Arun Prakash (retired) said the secrecy around the induction of the vessel was “customary” for a nuclear submarine.

“Arihant is an achievement technology wise, but otherwise it is a top secret,” admiral Prakash told IANS.

“Its mission is to be a nuclear deterrent. Everything to do with the submarine will be a secret. Its movement, position and location will not even be known to the navy,” he said. “It is not a normal ship, though we would like to show it off, we cannot.”

The 60,000-tonne submarine was also not included in the International Fleet Review (IFR) hosted by the Indian Navy earlier this year. It was initially expected to start sea trials by 2012, but the production was delayed and sea trials began in December last year.

In 2013, the miniaturised nuclear reactor of Arihant, built with Russian help, became critical, causing delays.

The project was part of the advanced technology vessel programme and operated under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office and involved agencies such as the DRDO, the Department of Atomic Energy, the Submarine Design Group of the Directorate of Naval Design, besides companies such as L&T.

Its 100-member crew has been trained by Russian specialists, and Indian scientists at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre have received significant expertise in reducing the size of the reactor to help it fit into the 10-metre diameter hull of the nuclear submarine.

India currently operates Russian-origin nuclear-powered submarine INS Chakra, which it leased for 10 years from Russia in 2012.

Nuclear submarines have the capability to stay out in sea for longer, and don’t need to surface for a long duration.

Ms Additional secretary get your stuff in order. Otherwise you'll never become Secretary...

It's called nuclear submarine not atomic submarine.
India has already developed first nuclear submarine. And we are developing more.

Regional balance of power cannot be balance when you put 100 gm on one side and 700 gm on the other side. And that NSG membership is a matter of "when" and not of "if".
President of Afghanistan did look really assured about Pakistan's role in regional peace.
There was no need to hijack the meet. It was going in the direction that India desired.

. . . . .
RAW involved!!!! Proof?

India already operates SSBN. And yes we are developing more and more nuclear submarines and advanced missiles to carry them

Than it's not a good sub.

Next generation SSN will carry bramos with 600km range. So wait for it
