India concerned over Padma (Ganges) barrage project

@Rain Man for your cross check

Yea pic and as per treaty 50 50 share.
because the width of river before dam will be more, when you make a dam, you increase the area that is submerged (which is why people oppose dams)..
you cant guess from picture whether its 50-50.

I cant show the full pic from google map ganges upper stream. Its pretty same. Farakka barrage isnt a mere dam. Its water diversion. Check mahananda and tista as well.

WRONG! You are seeing what some propagandists want you to see. Ganges has an average flow of close to 600,000 cusec of water at Farakka, that canal draws far less than 10% of it.

Farakka is a dam, the photo is showing the reservoir behind the gates, that's why the area is so full of water. The reservoir is necessary because in certain days in rainy season the water flow can increase by 4 times or more. That reservoir has saved Bangladesh also from many floods.

There is no ambiguity here, just dig up some data. We don't draw 50% of the water at Farakka.

Ok Im giving you a larger pick to understand better. This is not our concern how much water is drawn from Farakka. But getting the share as per treaty.

I repeat.....

First fact is that at Farakka dam we withdraw less than 10% of the water, roughly 6.80% or so on an average, and not 50% that you claimed. You can check any credible source, there are multiple sources for you.

Second, the upper part of the dam is always wider because of the reservoir, and also because of the increased silt that reduces the depth of the river, lower side of the dam is deeply dredged for the gates to work properly, the thickness of the river will be narrow and deep only for a short distance of a few kilometers near the dam area.

Just click on the zoomed out google map link, see it by changing terrain, there is no visible shortage of water.

Google Maps

Further, you also have hard data to check.

You are doing the same thing as those people, spreading misinformation. :(

Actually everything is politics in Bangladesh, and it revolves around India. Awami League is considered to be pro-India, and BNP+Jamat alliance spreads all such misinformation and false propaganda against India to build negative public opinion against Awami League. Awami League in turn also does the same thing to show its voters that they are fighting for Bangladesh's rights!
