CPI(M) leader have asked for disciplinary and legal actions against the DU professor for defamatory and communal remarks.

MPs of the Kerala's ruling CPI(M) and opposition party Congress on Thursday slammed a Delhi University professor's "mark jihad" remarks against the southern state's education board, terming it as "ridiculous" and sought condemnation by the Centre.

After a large number of students from Kerala applied to DU colleges for higher studies with good marks, Rakesh Kumar Pandey, a member of RSS-affiliated teachers' body National Democratic Teachers' Front, had criticised the Kerala Education Board, calling it a "marks jihad".

While Congress MP Shashi Tharoor described it as "ridiculous", CPI(M)' Rajya Sabha member John Brittas shot off a letter to Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education, urging him to take disciplinary and legal actions against Pandey for his "highly deplorable, defamatory and communal remarks".

Responding to remarks by Rakesh Kumar Pandey, Mr. Tharoor said, "This anti-Kerala bias must end now!"

"The use of "jihad" as a synonym for any trend you don't like is exceeding all limits: now a DU teacher has got attention by absurdly decrying #MarksJihad!," Mr. Tharoor tweeted, sharing the link of a news report carrying Pandey's controversial remarks.

"I've always decried the over-reliance on marks as the main criterion for DU admission, but this is ridiculous. If "Jihad" means a struggle (with yourself above all), the Kerala students scoring 100% have struggled against the odds to get to DU. Interview them first if you wish before letting them in, but don't demonise their marks! This anti-Kerala bias must end now!", the Thiruvananthapuram MP said.

In his letter to Mr. Pradhan, Mr. Brittas said at no stretch of imagination, those comments can be considered as accidental but are intended to defame Kerala and to create polarization in the society.

"In these circumstances, I request your good self to initiate urgent steps for ensuring exemplary punishment against the delinquent professor, both penal actions as well as departmental actions", the RS MP wrote.

He also urged the Minister to issue a strong condemnation by the Education Ministry against Mr. Pandey's comment.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Pandey had alleged that "the invasion of Kerala board students with perfect 100 per cent marks cannot be considered as unplanned." "It hints at something that must be investigated. There is no way that one can accept this inexplicable flow of students from the Kerala board as normal. Majority of these students are comfortable neither in Hindi nor in English. All these students do not have 100 per cent marks in Class 11," Pandey had said, calling it a "marks jihad".

Over 100 admissions of students of the Kerala board were put on hold by the Delhi University (DU) over a confusion related to their marksheets, but the matter was resolved after officials contacted the board in the southern state, sources had said on Wednesday.

Amid a large number of students from the Kerala board applying to DU colleges, that too a majority of them being perfect scorers, an issue over their marksheets had risen on Monday, leading the admission branch of the university to direct the colleges to put the admissions on hold.

A majority of these admissions had taken place in north campus colleges, the sources had said.

Jamahir's comment : LOL. Can't Indian Muslims do anything without it being termed as "Jihad" or them being implicated in some "Jihad" by the Hindutvadis ? First came Love Jihad, then Land Jihad, then UPSC Jihad, then Narco Jihad and now Marks Jihad.

I suppose the last line and also that professor is implicitly saying that the Kerala board and the students colluded in forgery.

Only in India - do you hear this from a semi-educated educator.

Is scoring better marks in exams a detriment, or worse, a crime? That is what a merit list is for, to judge merit in unbiased manner, regardless of caste, creed, ethnicity and religion.

Some cow belters really have gotten too much to handle for their insignificant brains. I am ashamed an educator is making a comment like this.

Best option for Keralan (or all Southern Indian) folks is to fund a separate reputed University in one of the Southern Indian States, and reduce dependence on DU.

Stop sucking on the dry teats of everything from the cow-belt North and make your own infra.

Yeh Cow-belt Gavi-ka doodh (aur legitimacy) finish ho chuka hai....

.
Since Mr. Pandey is officially associated with a political union, he should be more bothered about the dumbing down of his proteges courtesy supremacist outlook and infiltration of superstition in every day discourse rather than someone else excelling in academics.

Actually the reverse is true. There are more North Indian students studying in southern colleges than the other way round. Some south Indians may have aspirations to study in the older famous colleges of Delhi, but by and large the flow is the other way. The same is true in employment too.

People like him are the last hope for democracy in India, and peace in region.

But I think, bjp will soon come to poison the south as well.

.
Jihad is an Arabic word used as a common name, so obviously it has good meaning in the Arabic language, and in the Quran. Years ago, I had a Lebanese Christian professor with the first name, Jihad. One day he said something about his personal life and mentioned the Church. The only student to care and be bothered was a Hindu from Nagpur. He said but if you are Christian how is your name Jihad.🤣 The professor replied, it is Arabic name. I could see the guy's face, he had a hard time processing what he heard. This was the second time something embarrassing like that happened around me. An Egyptian Coptic named Tariq was asked by an Indian Catholic woman to explain his "Muslim" name. He looked at her very annoyed, and said, it is Arabic name.

Well, the allegation of Love Jihad was first invented in the fertile minds of the Kerala Catholic Church in 2009 and then adopted first among the Hindutvadis by I think the Sri Rama Sena in Karnataka ( a Southern state ) the same year and they started harassing and assaulting any Muslim man who was found in company of a Hindu woman and this was particularly so in Mangalore city in Karnataka where the Sri Rama Sena has its most infestation.

But I think, bjp will soon come to poison the south as well.

BJP already rules Karnataka and seems on the way to win the next election in Telangana whose capital is Hyderabad.
People like him are the last hope for democracy in India, and peace in region.

Agreed.

Years ago, I too had a business associate by the name Jihad and he too was a Lebanese Christian. Being fairly well read, I understood that this is an Arabic name, but to be honest I don't expect everyone to know this, especially those who have focussed solely on technical subjects all the time. Much of the world is ignorant about rest of the world. What is perhaps expected behaviourally is to do some homework yourself before asking such questions and being cognizant of what is considered rude in certain cultures. In India for example no one minds these kinds of questions, or at least does not display the displeasure openly.

Agreed.

Previously Indians behaved normal. Now when even I tell some Indian that I am a Pakistani, I already can see the way he looks at me. Indians girls which were the nicest part of Indian society(to me) are also poisonous to core.

Kia bna dia Hai Media or bjp nain Indians ka? Achay bhaly progressive log thy Indians... Kaisy kabo Kia....
