India acquires 11,000 extreme cold gear sets from US army

If you really have 35 years of experience, then you should have all the need cold gear in your warehouse already instead of shopping urgently.
Best post on this thread. Even the capability of being able to engineer such gear that suits your context should have been developed in-house. Cold-weather equipment that may be desinged to work in Alaska or Siberia will never work on a mountain where weight becomes an issue as well.

Given the poverty in Indian military they might have to share one suit ;)
They will probably enjoy it too:

India activated a key foundational pact with the US last month to acquire urgently needed high-altitude systems for soldiers deployed to forward areas along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh who are likely to stay on through the winter as tensions with China continue.

Sources said that 11,000 sets of extended cold weather clothing system (ECWCS) arrived late last month after India made an urgent request for assistance under a bilateral pact. These sets have come from the stockholdings of the US Army and have been dispatched to forward areas where troops are braving the cold.

This is perhaps the first time the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (Lemoa), signed in 2016 after years of discussion, has been used in an operational context. The pact gives the two nations access to each other’s military and civil facilities for repairs, supplies and refuelling and has earlier been used during wargames and occasional refuelling of ships and aircraft.

Sources said that so urgent was the need that the US was requested to provide all possible stocks that could be spared. India has over 50,000 additional troops deployed in Ladakh to counter the massive PLA build up since early May.

ECWCS are vital to keep soldiers alive at extreme altitude and temperatures which could touch -40 degrees Celsius in winter. So vital was the need that a small number of the ECWCS systems that arrived included ones issued to US soldiers in the past.

Having exhausted reserves, India has been hard pressed to find clothing and habitat systems for thousands of soldiers inducted at the heights. All Indian missions abroad have been tasked with a specific list of equipment that is required by the Army, which include boots, tents, sleeping bags, suits and socks. However, it has not been easy to find sources of supply that can quickly deliver products. Also, such large quantities of high altitude survival gear are not readily available in the patterns and colours suited for military use.
Are these enough for 900,000 soldiers deployed IOJK? Or these are meant to be used by "most favored" officers only.

Indian soldiers are EXPERIENCE in dying in cold climate.

Every year approximately 26 Indian soldiers die in Siachen due to harsh cold weather during winter.

This figure may raise to 500 or more in the coming year.

Need such gears in extremely cold whether. Chinese soldiers are dying because of cold in absence of proper immunity against cold.
Chinese don't have proper immunity against cold? Haha, which country is colder? India or China? Which capital is colder? New Delhi or Beijing?

Retard bhakts dont know how chinese fought in korea during the winter

PLA exercise in north east China's Heilongjiang province at -31℃, north China has long winters and the temperature can easily drop below -30℃ even -40℃, the lowest recorded was about -60℃

Loooooool.
Immunity against cold.
Does that mean Indian eat a cow pack for immunity. Please learn English.
11000 sets of winter clothes is sufficient....ummm

Would be costly but in wartime situations, cost becomes irrelevant.
Land cannot be created . It can be gained or lost.
Siachin has around 5000 troops , which costs 5 cr per day. But siachin is even much more extreme , more inaccessible.
Ladakh we have around 30000 additional troops. So cost might be around 30 cr per day but reduce it a bit as its not as extreme , distant as siachin. So maybe around 25 cr per day.
And once the fixed facilities are set up , the daily expenses are food and fuel , which in anycase soldiers consume anywhere they are posted.
In my view the additional cost is of fuel and one time fixed cost of shelter and clothing.

This is a very simplistic way of calculating costs.

1) Increased supplies will be a constant incurring costs. To feed and equip men (clothing needs to be replaced)
2) Anyone with any knowledge of military affairs will tell you that the wear and tear on equipment and use of hours will have an effect on the service lives of tanks and aircraft
3) Much still has to be air lifted in as we are seeing, and C-17 is very expensive to fly
4) The constant rotation of men and equipment by air and land is expensive
5) New equipment for the battle area is not one off. It needs repair and replacement often
6) Retraining of troops for new roles once the arrive/leave
7) Increase in medical costs and loss of troops due to illness. More troops may also be invalided out of the army and require long term care.

All of the above will be an ongoing yearly additional cost, that when combined with the yearly pension cost increases, will mean less and less money for equipment purcahses.

Chinese don't have proper immunity against cold, Indians do. lol..

Global Temperature Map

India is a big country with diverse weather conditions, most of India is generally warm but in few northern Himalayan states it does get extremely cold in winter. Most soldiers stationed in Siachen and other high altitude posts many are native to these states and have natural resilience to cold weather.
Or these are meant to be used by "most favored" officers only.

I guess they are only meant for troops who will be stationed at captured heights along the LAC throughout the winter, not all the troops present in Union territory of J&K and Ladakh.

First, India in size is just one third of China's, it's a small country in size, big country only in population, China has way more diverse weather conditions than India.
Second, China has way more troops stationing in Tibet north of the Himalaya mountains, Xinjiang, north eastern Chinese provinces , inner mongolia... how can you Indians claim you have immunity to cold and we Chinese don't?

The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War

The Frozen Chosin
More than 30,000 U.S. soldiers and Marines along with a detachment of British troops faced equally punishing temperatures during the first winter of the Korean War at the Chosin Reservoir. That’s where the UN’s X Corps, which had pushed communist forces far above the 38th parallel in the fall, was surprised and surrounded in late November by a Chinese army more than twice its size. For nearly three weeks, Allied forces held the line as the mercury dipped below -30 C (-22 F). Nearly 14,000 Americans became casualties – half as a result of combat, the other half from prolonged exposure to the extreme cold. The remaining soldiers were boat-lifted from the port of Hungnam in late December.

Read my post again never said all indians are adapt to dealing with harsh cold, but some communities in northernmost regions are. And yes India is a big country don't judge it's size by looking at 2D maps, as earth is round the regions which are closer to equator will appear small and region near poles incorrectly appear to be larger. Reason why in most Maps Russia appears enormous while Africa is pretty average despite actually being larger than Russia.
