India a tolerant country, Taslima Nasreen says - Times of India

NEW DELHI: India is a tolerant country with a few intolerant people and it is time to focus not just on Hindu fundamentalists but on Muslim fundamentalists as well, Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen said.
"I think India is a tolerant country, but some people are intolerant. In every society, there are some people who are intolerant," the self-exiled author said at an event here, while referring to the recent violence in Malda in West Bengal.
She said while there was talk about Hindu fundamentalists, one has to talk of Muslim fundamentalists as well.
Nasreen said absolute freedom of speech was necessary even if it offended some people.
"I think we should have freedom of expression even if that offends some people. If we do not open our mouths, society will not evolve. Of course, we should fight against misogyny, religious fundamentalism and all kinds of evil forces only to make the society a better one."

The writer was participating in a discussion on "Coming of the Age of Intolerance" at the ongoing Delhi Literature Festival at Dilli Haat here on Saturday evening.
The author had drawn the ire of fundamentalists in Bangladesh for her controversial books like 'Dwikhandito' and was forced to leave Bangladesh in 1994 for allegedly hurting religious sentiments with her novel 'Lajja'.
On the other hand, BJP ideologue and writer Sudheendra Kulkarni said absolute freedom could only be exercised with responsibility.
"There is no freedom whatsoever to show any religion in bad light, knowing that it will hurt sentiments and insult others. I completely disagree that writers should have absolute freedom. Freedom must be exercised with responsibility," he said.

Kulkarni said India as a country was "essentially tolerant" and that the debate must not be politicized.

"We should neither exaggerate nor belittle the incidents of intolerance. We should never politicize this debate, making it out as if it is between political parties. It is not that intolerance has begun in May 2014 (when the Narendra Modi government came to power)," Kulkarni said.
In September last year, a debate over what many writers said was a "growing climate of intolerance" saw over 40 writers and filmmakers returning their awards to protest the killings of rationalists and writers like Narendra Dabholkar and MM Kalburgi and the lynching on a Muslim man in Dadri over suspicion that ate beef.
He also said a certain kind of marginal intolerance has always been present in Indian society and so it was not right to blame "this party or that party" for it.

Says the lady who has been a victim of intolerance in India. Its high time she gets Indian citizenship. I am waiting to see her roar against fundamentalists without any threat of being deported.

We don't need a Rohingya's certificate, neither we are accountable to world for our tolerance.

Though, taslima said india is the most tolerant country, she is the top most radical person ousted from Bangladesh because of her very ugly deeds against mass peoples religious beliefs. She now living in a country where religiously minors getting executed on false claims, facing extreme social & state level oppression. It's not astonishing that nasrin applauds hindutva, as she baked her into the moral less hinduism. Her voices are only, just only i say again, against Islam. She fell into darkness with her devilish theories and betrayed from her very bed mates like shamsur rahman, shamsul haq & other prominent west bengali writers.

BTW, i assumed some causes of nasrin's anger against the mainstream society. Firstly, it's deemed that she hates trendy boys culture as those boys weren't liked her because she wasn't so beautiful and didn't ran after her from her school life to the ultimate women maturity. She didn't get any BF of her own :p: parents of young men always finds a cute and sober girl for their son and nasrin can't met this :taz: soooo, her anger raised gradually. Secondly, she didn't control herself for thinking. As she got herself in a lone world, her brain heightened to the rotten level by the very cordial help of satan  he led her to the rubbish bin, exactly  ultimately, she found it's Islam that cornered her from the society and it's not her, by default, infected thoughts made her rotten.

There has more reasons and analysis, for which nasrin couldn't b any example for human beings. She only deserve to b compared with seasonally mad roadside doggys. She worth it, she earned :bounce:

I lost my will power to write more about this ugly creature :hitwall:sorry for using odd words.

Agar hm intolerant ho Gaye to duniya se terrorism khatam ho jaaye. LOL
Plz elaborate or, i would get it as "if indians be fully intolerant then human race will be cleansed except hindus & zionists from the planet earth" :cheesy:

It just means " If we INDIANS become intolerant , then their will be no terrorists " .
And don't try to read in between the lines.... I intend what I say.

Comment about topic, don't comment about Hinduism. Hinduism withstood onslaughter Abrahamic religious, because of its resilience. You don't take moral high ground here, India is far better than your country when it comes to minority. Minorities in your country are taking asylum in other countries, better mind it before making statements.
