T2, Mumbai's swanky airport terminal
9,800 cr:
Cost of T2
4,39,000 sqm: The total area
9,900: The number of passengers it can accommodate
7,00,000sq ft: Retail space, F&B, lounges and travel services.
Did you know?
As part of T2’s design development, GVK Group took its team on a 15 day tour of India, which defined the overall design and aesthetic components of the airport rooting the design inspiration in distinctly Indian elements for an integrated holistic passenger experience.

Art attack

T2 is also home to one of the world's largest art space. The museum, called Jaya He, captures the expanse, depth and beauty of Indian art, craft and cultural heritage, while initiating the visitor into experiences that lies beyond its door. Jaya He is a narrative of India’s incredible diversity, living in multiple centuries simultaneously.

Interesting comparisons

Area of granite used is 1,85,000 sq m, enough to cover 27 footballs fields >> Total area of skylight glass is over 30,000 sq m, enough to cover Wimbledon’s Centre Court six times. >> Approximately 4 km of LED lighting has been used to illuminate the façade. This is just 1.5 km short of the length of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. >> Total area of facade glazing is 45,150 sq m, enough to wrap the Air India HQ building in glass, more than two times. >> The centralised air-conditioning plant that supplies air to the terminal is of York make and has a refrigerating capacity of 15,000 tonnes. >> The elevated road surface can accommodate about 277 tennis courts or about 1,080 badminton courts. >> The height of the central void former is large enough for Michael Jordan to comfortably walk in it without bending.

Titled Recycled Mumbai, this is an artistic map of Mumbai. The artist collected discarded buttons, microchips and circuits from which a large map of the city of Mumbai was fashioned. The work builds upon the pixilated image of Mumbai as seen on Google Earth and tries to recreate the eye-in-the-sky view of a world connected by satellites.

A breath-taking aerial view of the apron and the hangar where the aircraft are parked.

Facilities for passengers
>> Dedicated 6 lane, 3.2 km elevated expressway, just 6 minutes from domestic terminal (Today it takes more than 30 minutes) >> 8 check-in islands, 188 counters >> 60 emigration counters on departure (Currently, there are just 38) >> 72 immigration counters on arrivals (Currently, there are 40 now) >> 52 boarding bridges compared to 20 now for domestic and International >> 10,900 seating, 102 toilets, 161 elevators, escalators and travellators >> 10 baggage carrousels, can be expanded to 14 in future >> Landscaping of 200,000 square ft >> 1,000 back-office rooms >> Largest multi-level covered car park in India, accomodating 5,000 cars

wow.. impressive. But it's an entirely different world when you are about to land at Mumbai airport. It feels as if the aircraft is about to scrape slum rooftops while landing. It's about time they give bit of a makeover to the external landscape of Mumbai international airport!

Not so bad now as it used to be 10 years ago. They really have improved the current one after IGI was built

Not really my friend. Was there only 5 months ago... nothing has changed in that front. Slums are still intact. You don't notice much while landing at domestic terminal.. but international is still pretty much the same. There was an initiative earlier to clear off those illegal settlements. But votebank politics got in the way...
