What's new

In a hospital. At the beach. Hamas, Israel tells us, is hiding among civilians (Guardian nails it!)

One bit I don't understand. Why does Egypt allow Israel to get away by putting up an embargo on Gaza? Don't they have a border with Gaza? They even had Muslim brotherhood ruling them. Why aren't they interested in helping out the Palestinians?

both egypt and israel have embargo on gaza. I have no idea why @Hazzy997 might elaborate.

Look at it this way: Both sides are in a state of war, and therefore are entitled to respond with all the resources available to them.

Every rule in the book states that you can't use that force against hospitals, schools and public structures like those.

Heck, they didn't spare a UN run school!

Are you also outraged by the civilian deaths being caused by the Pak Army in FATA these days? Or are you just being selective and hypocritical?

Pak Army deaths aren't being caused in schools, hospitals and UN run buildings.

People were evacuated before hand and were given ample time and resources.

And where is the proof that scores of children and women have been killed in FATA? I don't see around 500 civilian casualties as a result of mass murder.

Those who stayed behind were either in very small numbers (and they are idiots to remain back) or were married or related to the terrorists in one way or another. Any able male who chooses to remain there is himself putting himself in harms way. It's his own choice...in majority cases.

You just love comparing apples and oranges.

@VCheng....

This is a prime example of a Hamas terrorist using a young boy as a human shield. The all righteous Israeli Army is merely defending itself in response to the volley of rockets because of which it sustained heavy casualties. They also recovered a rocket from the possession of the man and a ammo pack from the boy.

During Mubarak's era. Hamas was elected in Gaza. At the time he said he won't open it unless PA was governing. At the same time, it was Israel's responsibility as the occupying power to open the border crossings. Israel blocked the sea port as well. So Egypt didn't want to heed the responsibility as Israel wanted that. However, Mubarak allowed tunnels to be dug for commerce. Then in 2011 we saw what happened, the border was largely closed but the tunnels were working hard during that period. The army was gone.

Morsi actually opened the border over 10 hours every day at least. He allowed partial Egyptians from Gaza to get citizenship in Egypt. This helped Egypt's tourism industry. After he was gone, the current leadership in Egypt has to be hostile to Hamas since the US/Israel will block a legal process against the military coup. So now he is considered a legitimate leader in such an awful transition to power. He also gets funding from UAE/KSA which don't like Hamas just for being MB affiliated meaning they share a similar ideology. This ideology becomes popular quickly and could threaten local regimes.

So Egypt went back into being a usual military dictatorship as KSA/Israel/US/UAE wanted it to be. Now KSA declared the social movement MB a 'terror' organization after Egypt did so. Even though Hamas never did anything to Egypt, they are now closing the border forever almost. There's no specific reason and none of it is about security. It could eventually change after Sisi feels he's secured some aid and convinced his donors he 'crushed the MB' in Egypt.

What do the rulebooks say about hiding rockets in a school?

. . .
It wasn't a Palestinian or Hamas run school, it was a UN run school.

Now are you saying UN is also complicit with Hamas?

Placing a UN badge on a school does not mean that it was not being used to store rockets, now does it?

It was being run by the UN, Ban KI Moon has openly come out and said that.

The UNSG comes out and says that it was their school being managed by foreigners.

Robert Turner, the director of UNRWA, told Al Jazeera there was no warning from the Israelis before the shells landed.

"This is a designated emergency shelter," he said. "This was an installation we were managing, that was monitored [to ensure] that our neutrality was maintained."

UN shelter in Gaza 'struck by Israeli shells' - Middle East - Al Jazeera English

Statement by Director of UNRWA Operations in Gaza, Robert Turner On the unfolding situation in the Strip | UNRWA

Now Mr Robert Turner is surely not a Hamas fighter or Hamas spokesman is he?

Is tarah to puri dunia hi Hamas rockets shelter kar rahi hai!

Yes, it was a UN-managed school. But whether that school was being used only for education or also for storing rockets is the question.

Edit:

Please read this from The Guardian:

UNRWA investigating discovery of 20 rockets found in empty Gaza school | World news | theguardian.com

QUOTE: "The UN agency for Palestinian refugees is investigating the discovery of 20 rockets hidden in one of its vacant schools in the Gaza Strip. The UNRWA condemned the incident as a "flagrant violation" of international law, adding that the rockets had been removed and that the relevant parties had been informed."/QUOTE

At that time it wasn't being used for evacuation.

It was being used as a shelter and people were sitting in the courtyards. There was media access to the shelter and if there were rockets, media folks would have seen them.

Now if you are saying that UN is also helping Hamas, then good bye.

UN schools are being used for storing rockets. That violation by Hamas makes the schools legitimate targets according to the rulebook, as Sec-Gen Moon says:

QUOTE: "U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon last week expressed alarm that the 20 rockets being stored in the school had gone missing.

By doing so, those responsible are turning schools into potential military targets, and endangering the lives of innocent children, U.N. employees working in such facilities and anyone using the U.N. schools as shelter,” Ban said in a statement."/QUOTE

Keyword here is "Vacant".

Was that hit school vacant?

This is my last post with you on this topic.

A building used to store rockets is a legitimate target. The number of people inside the building is another matter.

Dear Fulcrum

Vcheng was given special access to the school where he established the fact that it was being used to store rockets. All 15 odd Gazan hospitals were used to store bombs which were visited by VCheng to eastablish the rocket storages, before giving the go ahead for 'bombing' them.

Everytime the Zionists bomb a place in Gaza they send VC for inspection before. Please shut up.
