A recent development has revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will meet with the executives at Tesla Motors to discuss investment opportunities in the Pakistani Electric Vehicle (EV) market.

The news came from the renowned tv anchor, journalist, and columnist, Sabir Shakir, via a video clip shared on Javed Afridi’s social media page.

In the video, Sabir Shakir states that Javed Afridi (one of Pakistan’s most influential businessmen and a key stakeholder in MG Pakistan) has already had a couple of meetings with the officials at Tesla Motors. He said that the world’s largest and most prolific EV maker has already expressed interest in investing in the Pakistani automotive market.
Pakistan’s new EV policy was introduced by the government late last year, wherein it had announced a number of benefits and incentives for both interested investors in the local EV sector and potential buyers.

Javed Afridi has been at the forefront of campaigning for EVs to be made the norm in Pakistan. Additionally, MG, of which Afridi is a key stakeholder, is also set to introduce the ZS EV in Pakistan, reportedly in the first quarter of 2021.

The video also showed Sabir Shakir highlight that the economy of the country is on a rapid upward trajectory and is likely to yield a number of positive outcomes, especially for the automotive sector.

We have good chinese alternatives
Better talk to them
Buying the cart before buying the horse. :D

The Grid won't be able to handle 100k, let alone 1M EV's on the road....expect 18 hour load shedding.
Well better get ready investing then

But if you want savings and no smog.you have no alternative

We have 10GW of excess installed capacity with more to come online in this decade.

The reason you have power outages is because governments did not even focus on transmission.

IK has a long term vision. Tesla just build it’s car manufacturing plant in China. If they build one in pakistan, they can reduce their overhead by hiring cheap labor in Pakistan and cars can easily be delivered to xyz countries via CPEC route.

Tesla is a rich man's plaything. Lets us Pakistanis not look for politics in this too.

Loadshedding still happens in nuclear poowered Pakistan today - it's 2021. Daft.

.
yes because Pakistan has great infrastructure for electric cars

theres something called being ambitious but then theres just plain stupidity

better to bring Amazon, Paypal and electricity for homes first

.
Some stupid people think that it can happened overnight. It's a long term plan and it take years to negotiate something like this.
Majority of the electricity shortage issues are related to power theft and price set by 42 independent power producers (IPPs). As far as not having the infrastructure for electric cars, Pakistan can introduce it in Rawalpindi & Islamabad as the pilot project and continue in rest of the Pakistan.

Javed Afridi meets PM Imran to discuss of foreign direct investment in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Renowned business tycoon Javed Afridi called on Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Friday.
They, during the meeting, discussed rising trends of foreign direct investment in Pakistan.
Javed Afridi, who is owner of Peshawar Zalmi, informed the premier about growing confidence of investors as a result of business-friendly policies of the government.

Yes and I think charging station infra structure is blown out of proportion as far as our domestic environment is concerned where majority of traffic is intra city. Any 3 phase connection can handle a load of 5-10kw/h.
Infrastructure will grow as demand increases. Once people start adapting EV private sector has enough juice in it to invest in infra once it reaches a profitable threshold.

Overall with the projects coming online even if you consider in the short term and with the work that is being carried out in transmission (which is actually the limiting factor even today), I see no better alternate especially for a fossil fuel starved country.

Exactly, especially now that we have all this surplus electricity generation capacity which is going to waste; plus the fact that our region is excellent for Solar and Wind power which is very cheap in the longer run. Large Parking Plazas and Shopping Malls could also be encouraged to invest in Solar/Wind powered charging stations for patrons and house owners can be encouraged to invest in solar systems for charging of their vehicles.

A vehicle which can run over 200 miles on a single charge should be good enough to be charged only once a week for the majority of intracity commuters.

In a country where a $20,000 car now costs $32,000 due to government tariffs and industry cartels, the government is trying to bring Tesla?

Electric cars are not efficient nor where the future is at. It is either going to be all-time charged cars via the natural electric medium grid or thorium fueled cars (You don't need to re-charge it or anything it can go for a century without needing outside energy)

Tesla is also looking to revolutionize the HVAC industry, as well as large battery storage, which would help minimize the need for more power plants during peak electricity demand. Two more applicable technologies Tesla is working on that would be of interest to Pakistan.

.
I love Imran Khan but at time he does things that are beyond my comprehension. Is Tesla's executive bringing some money or investment?

Instead of focusing on click-bait articles titles kindly look into
  1. "Tesla PowerWalls" and "Hornsdale Power Reserve" case study - think about our generation capacity and usage both in summer/winter/peak/off-peak hours, the capacity based charges etc.
  2. Giga Factories in Germany and China - contemplate a little and try to connect the dots Vis-à-vis CPEC.

. .
Tesla is very likely to build their next Asian Gigafactory in India.

Therefore, electric cars produced from India would cost less to deliver to the high-tax oil-rich money-spending Arab market across the sea.
