IMF urges government to impose more tax

. .
IK knows what he is doing. You can't just beat 72 year old entrenched mafia in 2 years lol

Waiting for a stupid answer :D
Have a good look at PTI in its present form; Mafia(s) hijacked PTI even before the elections (Elite Capture phenomenon). Look at the faces surrounding Imran Khan as well as chief financiers of PTI. Modern-era politics is all about money and only mafia(s) have money. Those who financed Imran Khan's ascendance to power, now want to profit from their investments at the expense of the masses because this is what they always do while Pakistan remains mired in inflation.

There were hints as far back as in 2014: https://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/20...as-surrounded-khan-says-ptis-labour-wing/amp/

Jahangir Tareen = a solid member of Sugar Mafia.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1531162

https://www.propergaanda.com/sugar-...e-in-profit-for-jahangir-tareens-sugar-mills/

Just one example.

Jahangir Tareen is also in the MUK MUKAO business for PTI. Help create connections with same entities and/or individuals who have a controversial past and present.

There are more. Arif Alvi; Imran Ismail, Najeeb Haroon; Samar Ali Khan; Firdous Shamim; Faisal Wada to name a few.

Masses continue to suffer as they did during the respective tenures of PPPP and PML(N) in the capacity of GOP. Same old empty promises of relief (situation will improve; be patient) while inflation hammer continues.

And here some members are trying to lecture others about significance of paying more taxes. Since you own a car and living in a house, you must have unlimited capacity to pay more and more taxes as well.

.
In Norway I pay 36 percent income tax and 25 percent vat on everything I purchase. Compare this with Pakistan
Making money is not a problem. Lack of taxation on money earned is the problem

In Pakistan too income tax is from 5%-32.5% depending on your salary. Then there is 17% GST. Then there are some other taxes (some adjustable some not) like on purchase of property, vehicles, token tax on vehicles etc.

Tax to Gdp of Norway is above 50 percent. For Pakistan it is less than 10 percent. And yet people complain of taxes :D
People pay taxes perhaps pay more than is necessary. It is the tax evasion at the business/corporate level that is the problem.

No government has till today being able to fix this.

Those are all indirect taxes that pinch all equally

So you wish to change the system? What are the alternatives where elite capture is not possible?

ISLAMABAD: The dialogue between Pakistan and the visiting delegation of the International Monetary Fund will be held today (Monday) after the break of two days.

It is likely that imposition of new taxes worth Rs200 billion will be discussed and the government will have to take decision to hike power and gas tariffs to eliminate subsidies for crucial ease of monetary pressure on the government.

The policy level talks would also determine revised tax revenue target of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The meeting will also take up measures letting regulatory bodies, Nepra and Ogra work independently.

The IMF will also be provided details of loss making institutions and roadmap will be given for their privatisation. New slabs for power sector are likely to be introduced. Amid growing concerns over the record inflation and its impact on the masses, the PTI government has told the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that the steps taken in this regard would stablise the food prices in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Minister for National Food Security and Research Khusro Bakhtiar said the government was taking all the necessary measures for the management of food inflation. “A bumper wheat crop is expected this year and there will be no issue of wheat supply in coming months,” Bakhtiar told the IMF staff mission during a meeting.

The mission is currently on a visit to Pakistan to review the economy’s performance in line with the conditions related to the Fund’sloan programme. The successful review would pave the way for release of third tranche under the $6 billion extended fund facility.

Senior officials from the ministries of food, finance and State Bank of Pakistan were also present during the meeting. Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday said his government will go to any extent to provide relief to masses and check price hike of essential commodities.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of his economic team with reference to key commodities’ prices, including flour, sugar, cooking oil and rice. The meeting took stock of the steps for bringing prices of these items down under the premier’s directions.

Those in attendance were Adviser to PM on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Minister for Economic Affairs Division Hammad Azhar, Special Assistant to PM Dr Sania Nishtar, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, PTI leader Jahangir Tareen, Shahbaz Gill and USC chairman.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), citing estimates of various researchers, said January inflation was around 13 per cent, whereas the actual inflation compiled by it was 14.6 per cent, “more than what was estimated”.

“The inflation is higher because the prices were collected during the peak of the price surge in mid of the month,” it said in a statement. “It (PBS) followed standard operating procedures regarding time schedule for data collection.”

PBS denied an impression that inflation figure was understated, saying the institution is unbiased towards compilation and publication of price statistics. The bureau said it collects real-time prices data based on android technology equipped with global positioning system and monitored at different levels.

The prices data collection, validation and publication are well synchronised with best global standard classification of individual consumption by purpose. It compiles data without any political intervention or motivation and transparency is ensured regarding city-wise price data. “Therefore, fudging of the data is not possible,” it added.

What is minimum wage in Norway? Do you have concept of minimum wages in Pakistan? People taking minimum wages in Noway can afford all basic necessities in life and even can afford some luxuries which is not true for vast majority of people in Pakistan. Pakistan is the only country where you pay taxes on food bills in resturants, where government deduct taxes from your mobile topup, you cannot even withdraw your own money from bank without paying some taxes to government so yes Pakistan has too much indirect taxes and no reliefs for those who pay taxes ..If you are paying 36 percent income taxes then you get benefits and services because they have working welfare system

No that's not right... the only tax Imran Khan can extort from small business men is 'income tax' which is one out 100 other taxes, which are paid indirectly. Just google direct and indirect tax of Pakistan.
This level of tax evasion is far more in developed countries... it's called black market.

Govt-IMF talks today: Rs200 bn new taxes, hike in power, gas tariffs to be on table

Why we need to listen to this? It's job of Imran Khan to deliver naya Pakistan!
Have we questioned, whom he appoint adviser and why he fired bureaucracy and than later why he re-hired same bureaucracy at increased salaries.

In Pakistan minimum wages are driven up by inflation. There is no need for govt intervention

It is very easy to sit in a foreign country and lecture people sitting in Pakistan to pay more tax. When you say things like this, you need to compare Apples with Apples, not Apples with freaking water melon.

So for those of you want to lecture, There is extremely high unemployment in Pakistan. You cannot see it because the systems to measure statistic is non-existent in Pakistan. So the most convenient and lazy way for governments in Pakistan has been to raise taxes on food and utilities. Some how ordinary people survive day by day. But now this absolutely filth of the government and the Corrupt Establishment are raising taxes of the daily food items and utilities of the ordinary people. Food is getting much more expensive. Utilities like gas and electricity is already going up considerably. They are now killing the ordinary people of this country through starvation.

This is shameful and deplorable in many ways. The government and the Establishment of Pakistan should be extremely ashamed of themselves for starving their own people at the behest of the evil IMF. There are others ways to increase revenue - but when you have corrupts and cowards ruling this country, they will never use the alternative ways.
