If they do, they will be charged under bigamy laws of India.
And it is the court that enforces the punishment segment of such offenses.
Dharmender & Hema got converted to Islam legally to avoid such hassles.

Dharmender and Hema malini continue to be Hindus. They converted, got married, and converted back.

Hindus CAN have more than one wife .............. Hinduism imposes NO restrictions on that. Its INDIAN Constitution which prevents Hindus from having more than one wife.

Second Salman khan has NO wife so far, so how is your point relevant ?

ok, perhaps even more common among the urban "rich" as you describe it, but education plays a huge part.

I've seen the whole spectrum of it, rich and the 'elders' disallowed/allowed for such a union, middle class and disallowed/allowed such a union, all permutations of girl's family/boy's families opposing/blessing..

it's still far from the norm and there's always a few raised eyebrows somewhere but intermarriage isn't that uncommon in urban India now... and certainly nowhere near as rare it would be in Pakistan.

The court witnessed an interesting exchange when the judge asked Khan to state his caste. Khan was confused by the judge’s question and someone in the court suggested he should say he was a Muslim.

Why the information pertaining caste is the part of the judicial process? The courts shouldn't be interested in casteism in my opinion.
