KARACHI: In an interesting political development for Karachi politics hitherto dominated by the Altaf-led Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chief Mustafa Kamal talked over the phone on Thursday and agreed to meet soon for a detailed discussion.

During the telephonic conversation, according to PTI central leader Dr Arif Alvi, the two leaders exchanged views on the evolving political scenario in the country with particular reference to the emerging situation in Karachi

The contact between the PTI and PSP chiefs, according to sources, was the outcome of backdoor contacts between leaders of the two parties.

In the prevailing political situation in Karachi where the Muttahida Qaumi Movement appears to be no more a force like it had been for the past 30 years, some political parties seem to be interested in filling the assumed political vacuum.

Some people says that kamal met khan in dubai and discussed alliance but khan was more interested in merging PSP into PTI

If PSP muhajirs and PTI can merge then they can unite large section of Karachi population. Punjabi and pathans will support PTI and some muhajirs too will support it because of PSP merger. Though not sure if they will defeat MQM even after that. Sindhis and Baloch will support PPP but they will not win many seats anyway.

Set realistic goal, no one is defeating PPP in interior Sindh. But combined opposition alliance can compete with current MQM in Karachi.

Hardcore mohajirs will rather vote for PSP than PTI. MQM still has a vote bank but it's decreasing.
PSP have failed to capitalize after 22nd August. They have made wrong statements and confused the voters.

I am not sure why S.M.K had to make a statement about Hammad Siddique. It would have been a perfect opportunity to pressure and expose MQM. Let MQM own Hammad Siddique, agencies and court decide his fate.

PSP should have released a white paper about MQM courption and bhatakhori but if they do that, they would have expose those MQM people they would like to be part of PSP.
Farooq Sattar has out played and humiliated S.M.K about the merger of the party.
Now S.M.K is on the back foot. IMHO, he gets too emotional, he should stay away from doing any interviews. In the meantime, I would suggest Raza Haron to become the official spokeman of PSP.
