London: India has improved its showing in the prestigious university rankings of Times Higher Education Emerging Economies with 49 institutions making it to the list including 25 in the top 200.

China remains the most represented nation in the annual 2019 listing, claiming four of the table's top five positions with Tsinghua University topping the chart, according to the London-based Times Higher Education (THE), a global organisation that produces data, analysis and expertise on higher education.

Leading India again is the Indian Institute of Science (14th), followed by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (27th). However, both of them slipped back a place this year, largely due to increased competition.

The 2019 ranking comprises nearly 450 universities expanded from 378 last year from 43 countries, across four continents.

This year's table presents a mixed picture for India, with several new entrants and high risers, alongside several institutions that dropped back.

India has increased its representation in the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings with 49 universities in the list as compared to 42 in 2018, the organisation said.

India has 25 universities in the top 200, a rise from 17 last year, it said.

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, however, scales 21 places - and into the top 40 - at 35th, thanks in particular to improvements in its research (volume, income and reputation) and industry income (knowledge transfer).

The Indian Institute of Technology Indore (61st) and the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (joint 64th) are the highest new entrants for India this year.

Savitribai Phule Pune University climbs an impressive 87 positions to joint 93rd, alongside the National Autonomous University of Mexico, with a rise in its research score, and a significant rise to its citations (research influence) score.

Meanwhile, Banaras Hindu University and Amrita University both scaled this year into the top 150, while the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune and Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad featured for the first time in this group.

Elsewhere, mainland China remains the most represented nation in the annual listing, with 72 institutions in total.

The Communist giant claimed four of the table's top five positions. Tsinghua University surpasses Peking University as this year's top institution overall, while Zhejiang University rises three positions to 3rd, the University of Science and Technology of China climbs one place to 4th, with Lomonosov Moscow State University completing 2019's top five.

Ellie Bothwell, Global Rankings Editor for THE, said: "Indian institutions have immense potential for success not only on the emerging stage, but globally. But, while progress is clearly being made, other economies that previously lagged behind such as Egypt and Malaysia are starting to advance at a much faster rate".

"In this year's table, India's institutions perform well in teaching. However they are significantly behind the global average in terms of international outlook.

"Strengthening this will further elevate the nation's global reputation for higher education, encourage important research collaborations and help attract international students," Bothwell added.

25 out of 200 is 1/8th of Indian universities among top 200. This is not bad. Jump of 50% from 17 in 200 to 25 in 200 is also not bad.

actually these institutions were very good. What has changed is that now world has started recognizing it. It must be 50% Indian institutions among top and 50% should be shared by rest of the world in medium term. In long term, the ratio should be 80% by Indians and 20% should be shared by the rest of the world.

The only advantage these Indian unis have is English. If those Chinese top schools teach in pure English, your IT industry would be dead. :D

The only advantage Chinese institution has is huge spending in infrastructure. So far talent is concern, Chinese institutes stands nowhere. Indian institutes produces top CEOs of World's top multinationals, top educationist, top scientist and top economist. Chinese are famous as chefs, accounts clerks and Pizza boys. US reporst om profession of Migrants confirms this. You can jsut calm down and accept the reality.

That's why you can have CEOs, but half a billion still shit in the open and 300mil is still starving. :enjoy:

Since you do not have the access to open source of information in leading human right champion china, I do not blame you for your Ignorance. You might have seen this in propaganda film of Xi which is compulsory for chinese to watch so that they can understand the greatness of almighty, his highness Xi.

What exactly stops your universities from teaching in English if its so advantageous?

Actually they work very hard to teach English but Chinese are not capable of learning any other language forget about science and math.

It's a national policy...WE ARE CHINESE.

Well human rights aside, I think we do have access to the latest research platform and also publish alot on the latest subjects. I am not quoting propaganda here bhai, just check the latest research paper rankings, don't look at the quantity, look at the quality too. :enjoy:

The truth is the only advantage Indians have is a colonial language heritage. You were exposed to it earlier and hence easier for you to learn. Chinese except HK and Sg, were using Chinese as the medium of research. You ever seen a Hindi research paper? :enjoy:

IIM Bangalore requires highest GMAT score in the world for Admission. This is the level of academic brilliance of Indian Institutes in the world.

If its a concious choice then dont crib about it. You cant have it both ways.

Do not apply any logic to their post. Afterall they are semi educated people. They contradict their own post in very next sentence. I have pointed that out many times.

We are higher than 'Jewish American'? I am kinda proud. These Indians are the top 1% I was talking about, the elites of India. A majotiry of them are of higher caste, these Iranian hybrids created Hinduism to control the other 99%.

That's just life, you will realize these researchers can write good English maybe with the help of spell checker?, the problem is their speech, they don't converse much in English. We can create technology using our own language, it's the advantage we have. So it's either you become a colonial stooge, or you bring your civilization together as you progress. Most Chinese choose their race.

So the question is how come with such high incomes, half a billion Indians are still shitting in the open, 300 million are still starving and Indian is a big shit hole? These Indians are the top 1% I was talking about, the elites of India, the remaining 99% is living in a shithole.
China = Good
India = Poor
Satisfied?
That being said, now can we resume talking about the thread topic?

With tough regulations, and a bit of funding in infrastructure and resources, Indian institutions can do wonders. Another big favor will be to remove reservations from higher graduation and post graduation education levels.

The truth is that China is a shadow civilization of India and was influenced by India for millenniums. Neither China nor any other country can compete with India is educations. We have seen 50% rise in top educational institutions of the world in just one year. Within next 2 decades, we shall have more than 50% of world's top education institutions. For us, things have taken a bit long to be on track whether it is economy or educational institutions. Knowledge is highest virtue in our culture. We shall excel and excel. China will remain a mediocre country so far as education is concern.
