If Pakistan starts JFT-17 after1965 arms embargo

Would Rolls Royce be willing to sell us just the engine EJ-200? How much would that cost IF it becomes possible?

RR is offering an improved EJ200 with production line in Turkey for the TFX program. A few caveats however: Turkey is a NATO partner, and the TFX is a Turkish program with no industrial partners that NATO would find objectionable.

IMO, Pakistan would have only been able to procure EJ200 engines post sanctions with a Eurofighter buy, new or used. There is no chance of the EJ200 being procured on an a-la-carte basis for the JF-17. Strict end use agreements and monitoring would also prevent engines meant for Eurofighter maintenance from being diverted for other uses.

If you're asking in the context of the TFX, then Turkey will pick up those export licenses. In terms of JF-17, probably no as the engine integration and testing would have to be done in China. The only way it is possible is if we build up our development capabilities such that we can undertake engine integration and testing with fighter aircraft. Unfortunately, much of our defence budget is reserved for much-needed operational procurement, leaving little for development.

good thread
what if we send mirages and F-104 to china in 1975 that this was great

and today situation will be totally different

Many thanks Bilal. Not just for this post but all the hard work u r doing on multiple sites.

I just want to comment that the ACM wants to establish a uni that will provide 5+ gen fighters in 15 years, whereas the real capability is built by doing little projects like integrating a new engine and learning lessons along the way. No uni can replace the benefits of such grounds up knowledge. I am really saddened by this news.

Imagine if Pakistan start JFT 17 fighter jet program in just after the 1965 war when American govt put the arms embargo on Pakistan.and Pakistan decide to go for his own fighter aircraft and start hiring the engineers and designers and aeronautical specialist from different part of the world and also buy some new high tech aircrafts of that time and we had most of them like F-104 , Mirages 3,and also some Chinese aircrafts.because in 60s that program must be so simple because on that time we had enough money to feed the program and to spent on R&D of different technologies for the fighter jets and we was able to get ready the jet in mid 70s with our own resources and later on we can induct new avionics and other update features for the jet and we would also earn the money to sale this jet to third world countries of Africa Latin america just like China did the progress on Soviet help. Why we always look to buy not to produce even in good economic progress time in 60s.
NED university started degree in automotives. The department was rooted out, by who, dont know, but never talked over again.

Hi,

Our utility was never high enough to build our own aircraft in the 60's---. It then again came down to the engine---. If there were sanctions---there were no engines available other than the chinese---.

The timing for the current aircraft was the right time to manufacture one---but once the J10 option became available---the current aircraft should have been ditched for a higher tier aircraft---.

The usage of the F16---the access to the F18's---the mirage 2k's---the Gripen---the Rafale---gave us the insight to the type of aircraft we wanted to build---but then again compromises on the size created a setback.
