DUBAI: Yasir Shah was on Sunday charged with an anti-doping violation and provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council.

The sample Yasir provided on November 13, was found to contain the presence of chlortalidone – a prohibited substance which appears in Section 5 of the WADA Prohibited List (in the category of Specified Substances).

“In accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Code, pending the outcome of the disciplinary process, Yasir has been provisionally suspended,” the cricket council said in a statement.

The matter will now be dealt with in accordance with the process set down in the Code, and until such time as the process is resolved, the ICC will make no further comment on this matter.

Pakistan bowler Yasir Shah was on Sunday charged with an anti-doping violation and provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council.

This is the second high profile doping case in cricket in recent days after Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Kusal Perera tested positive this month. The Sri Lankan wicketkeeper is facing the prospect of a four-year ban after his B sample tested positive for a banned substance.
The ICC statement in full:

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced that Pakistan's bowler Yasir Shah has been charged with an anti-doping rule violation under the ICC Anti-Doping Code.

The sample Yasir provided in an in-competition test, which was conducted on 13 November 2015, was found to contain the presence of chlortalidone, a Prohibited Substance which appears in Section 5 of the WADA Prohibited List (in the category of Specified Substances). In accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Code, pending the outcome of the disciplinary process, Yasir has been provisionally suspended.

The matter will now be dealt with in accordance with the process set down in the Code, and until such time as the process is resolved, the ICC will make no further comment on this matter.

Apparently the drug is used to treat muscle weakness and Yasir Shah was undergoing treatment for his back injury. Lets see if his defence can sustain that he was using these substances on a prescription.

Edit: Primarily used as an anti-diuretic for the treatment of hypertension.

We need a doctor to shed light on this issue.........

According to the rules and regulations of icc, you are not supposed to take drugs banned by WADA knowingly or unknowingly...a player should be careful even before taking any drug.
He or she should have enough sense to look up or check if any drug he or she is taking is included in the list of banned drugs..did yasir complete his schooling?

Yeah, exactly why his physician will also be party to the case. As for his education, I am not sure.

What if he uses the medication to regulate high blood pressure? Plus I would really like to know how "Chlortalidone" (a diuretic that is used to treat high blood pressure) effects a spin bowlers action and/or performance on the field.

Any doctor around to shed some light on this? @Akheilos @WAJsal

This is what Cricinfo says about the possible options for Yasir Shah now:

While he is provisionally suspended, Yasir cannot play - or be involved in any capacity in - international matches, and games organised by any national cricket board or its affiliated members. He can request for his B sample to be tested, and if that test does not confirm a positive result then the entire test will be considered negative and the suspension will be lifted with immediate effect.

Yasir can also request for a hearing before an anti-doping tribunal through a written application that must be received by the anti-doping manager within 14 days. Should he want a hearing, Yasir must state in his application how he responds to the charge and his explanation for the same.

i am veterinarian by profession and to best of my knowledge this drug is for Hypertension , lowers blood pressure , can be used for edema ( accumulation of fluid in the body ) , How can a drug lowering heart rate and blood pressure can increase the performance of an player , i think the physician might have used it in combination with another drug to treat the back pain that Ysair was exprcng before the start of 2nd test. This drug in no way can enhance his performance , i am hopeful that he will be out of this problem soon.
secondly how a player can force his physician to change his prescription , He is not a medico , even the highly educated persons wont do that , It is the responsibility of PCB and PCB's medical team

Sir i would like to add any medicine for muscle injury will cause doping issue because as per ICC or supports standards players are not exempted in any case even in case of injury, they should abstain after taking this medicine from supports activity (registered) until dope test shows negative.
