Buzz around Indian Aviation circle lately has been that Indian Air Force (IAF) is contemplating roping in another Government Owned Defence Production Company which can setup and manage second production line to produce indigenously developed LCA-Tejas Aircraft’s in the country.

Industrial sources close to idrw.org have said that state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has been told to start running its facilities at an optimum level by 2017-18 and deliver 16 aircrafts in a year after Indian air force agreed to place a larger order for 100 Enhanced Aesa equipped Tejas MK-1A.

Indian government and IAF has been for a while considering starting the production of the homegrown Light combat Aircraft (LCA), Tejas at another facility and last year had a closed-door meeting with several Private defence company officials in a Taj Vivanta Hotel located at Panjim home states of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar which was also chaired by countries Defence Minister .

HAL at present is the sole production agency for LCA and other fighter aircrafts in the country. Government and Indian air force are currently holding talks with other state-owned Companies who can step in and open second production facility not only for LCA-Tejas but also for other fighter aircrafts which India will procure or license-built in the Country in near future.

Over last few years, there has been a spike in fighting between HAL and IAF over terms of quality and punctuality at deliveries of aircrafts produced at HAL facilities. Many Defence Analyst in past have blamed HAL for having a relaxed and inefficient work culture leading to constant delays in almost every project handled by them.

It will be interesting to see if MOD and IAF can find the right partner in Private or in Public sector defence companies to handover second production line for long-delayed LCA-Tejas fighter aircrafts.

IAF has such low credibility in the market that NO ONE would want IAF as its customer. Its a sure recipe for disaster.

Only thing worse is to have IA has your customer.
looks like IAF is desparate for rafales and is trying every trick to get more of them

but LCA production can onli be ramped when hefty tenders are given to private players and HAL does the assembelly part :coffee:

True that. LCA production needs a firm commitment from IAF and a publicly demonstrated respect for the LCA.

Without that who will invest millions of $ to start a LCA production line ? As usual the IAF continues to live in a Fools paradise.

HAL was supposed to deliver SP2 in March, where is SP2? Or SP 3, 4, 5? <--- Why is there no news about this?

HAL and IAF both should revisit there current standing .HAL is working in isolation and IAF has its own western interest . Let this bird be produced in numbers since so much money is being spent and it will be a shame .Firm commitment is required from IAF before setting up 2nd line and HAL needs to seriously raise there standards

One thing is sure, progress or any updates had been made secret, and any related news are strictly coming only at regular intervals .

We will have to wait I guess .

And ADA is not involved?

But still you have POV on LCA's R&D program without even knowing who is involved?

Why not pvt. license production?

And in return ask the royalty fee from pvt. firms.

And who have capacity for this ?
Most capable player in Aerospace system integration is Mahindra who can just assemble 8 seater turbo propeller plane.
TATA are only capable of fabrication of some aerostructures & fuselage (not whole), which far from Lead system intregator.

MoD should loose the NAL (who basically work as helper to ADA & HAL) & ,make them full fledge lead system integrator.
Instead of DPSU mode NAL should be govern by independent directors.

Manufacturing capability? Seriously?

The situation in India is that 80% of R&D labs are owned by Govt., while 95% of Indian production is in Pvt. hand.

Just for starters, start to check sub contractors in LCA or SU-30 MKI programs. Or even in ISRO.
