What's new

IAF to Induct First DRDO EMB-145I AEW&CS by June

but the article says

DRDO and IAF in principal have approval to purchase additional 5 aircrafts over 3 already contracted with Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer while third aircraft will be delivered to DRDO by July and according to sources close to idrw.org third aircraft might be used by + DRDO as Testbed to test bigger AWACS radar components for “AWACS India” programme and might remain engineering prototype with them .

so how does it reduces the chance ............not to mention awacs requirement for navy

Not really, since DRDO proposes AWACS India instead of more EMB145I's, while IAF wants 10 smaller AWACS. They get 2 now and the minute more of them will be ordered, it lowers the chances of AWACS India. Not to mention that the single vendor situation now puts another hurdle to the development, which can get very expensive now, since we have no leverage to reduce costs.

Well that's what I said, IF the article is true, since IDRW is not a reliable source. And IN has no real requirement so far, there were a "wish" of shore based aircrafts, but that was never cleared and the aircrafts on offer were also smaller (E-2D, G550 Phalcon). Personally I even think more EMB 145Is would be great to monitor a wider range of the coast and sea lanes, but you don't need an expensive AWACS India for that.

CABS for JV to build Operator Workstations For Airborne Plartforms

April 18, 2015:
The Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS), currently developing India's AEW&C and AWACS platforms, is scouting a joint venture partner to develop advanced operator workstations for applications in its airborne platforms. The main objective of the effort is to design, develop, qualify and deliver advanced console units qualified to meet the airborne and harsh ground requirements for present and future CABS projects. The laboratory is looking for a modular development that can be incrementally improved for future projects, including special mission aircraft and spy planes. While CABS will provide technical inputs and qualitative requirements, the chosen vendor will carry out fabrication, testing and evaluation as per finalised requirements. Vendors will be required to quote the cost of 50-100 consoles supplied over 5-8 years. Vendors with experience in delivering similar systems to Indian aerospace firms or global majors will obviously be preferred. Overall, the console will be built around a 24-inch high definition display unit, three rugged computer units, one tablet unit for touch inputs. The entire unit will be hard-mounted on the aircraft floorboard.
