What's new

IAF keen on six more C-17s

engagement rule is made by winner, so those are not holly rules. rules changes time to time by the winner

Man! when did you start trolling?

The thread simply stated the possible news of IAF buying additional c-17, where the hell does Y-20 gets in

1. there is a dialog: if you want to be something great, first try to copy it.
2. And that copied nation has its own aircraft for many years and other one wasted so many time and money to call indigenous aircraft which is yet not operational and that will not be fully indigenous.

now tell me who did smart move ?

And you know what technology they are getting from other nations except Russia( Also hesitating in giving them access to technology ). And you know chinese pirated third grade items will never stand against Western/Russian items.

May be not in near future

But when all C-17s enter service, I don't think IAF will retain IL-76s

No. The Il-76s will soldier on for more time, even after the 16 C-17s are operational. The airframe life of the Il-76s are not running out yet. They will just be used for the routine "gadha work" till they are phased out.

^^ possible, naturally IAF will not phase out IL-76s before their life span is over

But obviously, majority heavy lifting will be done by C-17 GM III and we may see at least some of IL-76s currently serving in mountain regions being redeployed to new bases in Rajasthan, MP.

Not exactly. The Il-76s will continue the routine tasks, or what the IAF pilots call the 'milk-runs' while the C-17s will get to do all the specialised ones. And this will happen all across the country. Till the Il-76s get phased out. That is what will happen.

Apparantly the Il-76 candids and MKI tankers are all running on good spares and MRO/after-sales support. On the A-50 AEW&C variant PSK states that reports of maintenance related issues/complications are inaccurate.

PSK:- There are no logistics support deficiencies with the A-50I AEW & CS.

@Abingdonboy Any comment on the above part?

Besides 17 candids and 10-16 C-17s is a mighty fine strat. airlift component.

AFAIK there hasn't been too many spares-related issues with the A-50EIs of the IAF unlike the IL-76s in the past. The IAF seems to have learnt its lessons on this front and signs much more robust and comprehensive spares/ maintence deals with every new induction these days.
