An Indian Air Force helicopter with three people on board has gone missing near the country's border with China after taking off on a flood rescue mission, an official said Tuesday.

The Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) had taken off from Tezpur airbase in Assam around 4 p.m., the official told IANS. The helicopter was on a flood relief mission. It lost contact in Arunachal Pradesh state in India's remote northeast amid turbulent weather. Arunachal Pradesh as well as some other neighboring states have been reeling under heavy monsoon rains that have triggered landslides and floods.

"The ALH (Advanced Light Helicopter) had taken off from Tezpur airbase in Assam state around 4 pm (10:30 GMT)," he said, declining to be named.

Also on Tuesday, a Border Security Force (BSF) chopper carrying Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju had to make an emergency landing in a playground in Itanagar due to bad weather. Rijiju tweeted about the missing IAF helicopter.

"Weather is turbulent in North-East. I'm safe but the whole state machinery is geared up to locate IAF ALH chopper missing almost at same time," Rijiju said in a tweet.

Itanagar, July 5: The wreckage of the Indian Air Force helicopter, which had gone missing yesterday, was sighted in a deep gorge near Shopo Yuha, about 30km from here and 4km from Hostalam village in Papum Pare district of Arunachal Pradesh.

There was, however, no confirmation from the air force of the wreckage being located.

"Something has been found but we are not able to confirm anything as ground forces are yet to reach the spot," said Lt Col Sambit Ghosh, defence PRO based in the army's 4 Corps headquarters at Tezpur in Sonitpur district of central Assam. "I, too, have seen the photographs doing the rounds but there is no confirmation from our side," he added.

The advanced light helicopter, with three crew members and one India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) jawan on board, had gone missing near Sagalee in Papum Pare district after it took off from Pilputu helipad around 3.38pm yesterday.

According to reports, the bodies of two crew members have been recovered from the crash site. The third crew member and the IRBn person are reportedly untraced.

The chopper was deployed to airlift passengers stranded between Sagalee and Itanagar because of a road blockade caused by landslides and floods. It had flown to Naharlagun, 10km from Itanagar, from its base in Assam yesterday morning and had completed several sorties, lifting passengers from Sagalee to Naharlagun helipad, which is a 10-minute ride.

After the helicopter was reported missing and residents of Shopo Yuha reported the crash of a chopper in the area, rescue teams of the army, Indo Tibetan Border Police and state police were engaged to locate it. One team was led by Papum Pare superintendent of police Tumme Amo and the other by deputy superintendent of police Neelam Nega.

The search team led by Amo comprised 63 personnel from the Police Training Centre (PTC), 17 personnel from ITBP and a medical team. It started its search operation from Hostallam village. The second team, led by Nega, comprised 61 PTC personnel and 10 local youths. They started their search from the Nyorch area.

The debris was spotted by one of the five police teams detailed under Nega, says PTI.

An official source said the rescue teams trekked through dense forests and hills between Yupia and Hoj Telam, despite inclement weather, before tracing the helicopter.

no it is worse. Atlantique an unarmed plane on a training mission was shot down by cowardly Indians. This was brought down by either incompetent pilots or incompetent maintenance staff.

it is not like an Atlantique Incident

Did their ghosts came back to tell you that? Spatial disorientation in broad daylight?

Su-30mki crashed due to spatial disorientation of pilot.

As per your logic I can say that crash happens in PAK airforce due to incompetent pilots or incompetent maintenance staff. and they say, they are best. funny na?

Kid yourself you idiot, your user name suggests you too are an IAF pilot, "Chaos" in that case "Chaos" perfectly suits you.

There can be no investigation about pilot disorientation post mortem, unless that was communicated by the pilot himself to the contact tower, or it was recorded in the black box.

If it was communicated to the tower, then there was no need for 8/10 days of investigation, the fact would have come out on day one.

If it is established from black box recording, then it is not preliminary.

Lastly how come two pilots get disoriented at the same time? that too at day time flying?

Nope kid, that is what IAF preliminary investigation concluded.

Leave it, logic is beyond your comprehension

@BetterPakistan @Thorough Pro @Hamzay @Dawood Ibrahim @T-Rex

This is a second case. Not long ago, a jet of Indian airforce went down, It went as missing as well, initially...Now this.....

I have a feeling that something going on terribly wrong for Indians and they are hell nervous...

Our establishment must be on high alert as well...Anything can happen anytime

One of our Chinese friends has indicated that it has something to do with China's 'concrete steps' against india. It might well be true but so far the indians haven't disclosed anything that points to it. Those indians can be nervous for so many reasons though to me they don't look nervous at all.

All data from black box incl in investigation is preliminary unless it published in IAF annual/quarterly journal.
In Su-30 only pilot is responsible for flying and second crew is an WSO.
