It’s easy to forget that education is a privilege. 39% of Pakistan lives in abject poverty and making sure there’s enough food on the table is hard enough for tens of millions of our people, let alone ensuring education for their children.

To bring about a positive change in society and help those in need, Institute for Advancing Careers and Talents (iACT) is playing a vital role in the community. iACT focuses primarily on youth from the areas stricken with poverty, violence and crime and them with professional skills through vocational trainings.

Habib University Foundation (H.U.F) founded Institute for Advancing Careers and Talents (iACT) with collaboration of local government of Karachi in 2008. iACT has been registered with the Sindh Board of Technical Education (SBTE) and Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) since its inception.

The institute offers free of cost, as well as scholarship based courses and trainings to the youth aged between 16 and 30 years in various fields.

Courses and Facilities Offered by iACT
The core feature of the organization is to equip students with skill based education and provide them with an environment which helps them excel in life. To that end, there is a great variety of courses, which are offered by iACT. They include:

Not Just Education but Teaching How to Succeed in Life
Apart from equipping them with professional trainings through learning-by-doing model, iACT also stresses upon their personality development and engaging them in healthy activities.

Personal and Career Development (PCD) is another core aspect of iACT’s curriculum through which it grooms students’ personality and prepare them for their professional life. Moreover, to ensure better employment prospects for students, iACT also offers career planning and guidance services to the enrolled students through the regular career counseling sessions.

Job Placements
iACT does not abandon its students once they graduate, in fact placing them in different companies and/or helping them start their small business is its core responsibility. So far, 1728 students have been trained by the iACT center and 725 of them have benefited from job/internship placement services.

iACT reported that their major employers include notable organizations such as Metro, DHL, NIB Bank and Pak Suzuki. The institute has also partnered with renowned brands as On-Job-Training (OJT) partners.

Developing Athletic Capabilities
In addition to providing basic education, iACT goes a step beyond by putting high emphasis on co-curricular activities, especially sports. The students are not only given time to play different outdoor and indoor sports after their classes, regular sports weeks and tournaments are also organized to inculcate sense of team building and positive competition amongst them.

Other Programs & Community Outreach
iACT has introduced several other programs to make a positive impact on the community.

Sportify: To promote the importance of physical activities, iACT has a program named Sportify. The aim of this program is to raise awareness regarding sports and games as a productive co-curricular activity. This program equips schools with sustainable implementation strategy for sports based activities in daily timetable.

Street Talent Empowerment Program (STEP): This program was started in 2013 to provide education to children who are forced into labor by families due to financial constraints. STEP identified the need to provide equal educational and learning opportunities to street children.

Psychosocial Health Counseling For Female: iACT aims to shatter the perceived male gender superiority complex through this program. The organization has already made excellent progress by facilitating young girls through seminars and workshops.

iACT-H.U.F, since its inception, has been diligently working for the development and empowerment of the youth from marginalized areas of Karachi.
