I Was Detained on the American Border (Terrifying Experience)

. .
Terrible.
I had a similar experience at Heathrow, almost got arrested when I gave them a piece of my mind. I couldn't understand why when 1 in 3 US citizen adults have criminal records as to why I was stopped for a "random" secondary screening just before boarding the plane and most Americans and British white folks were allowed to board unhindered. I hope my relatives at Karachi airport and Islamabad airport will give these white folks a tough time too. . I was like what the fu(k too. First time it has happened to me. I do a lot of flying and have never been stopped before.

.
Truly shocking:-

Well I think the main problem is she is not a US citizen and she is driving a van FULL of her personal stuff into the country for what is supposedly a short stay. This already places her as a suspected overstayer.

Of course she is then checked out as a potential drug mule.

The US has a reputation of being overly heavy handed.

Hey I was walking through airport security at Logan casually chatting with a friend of mine when he got yanked to the side and given the extra secondary screening. He's Italian and I'm mostly Irish so I laughed afterwards that I guess the Red Brigades is more on the watch list than the IRA.

Bottom line is they pull people all the time.

At the Mexican border where hardcore gangs from South America are common that should be expected...and yes some of them are women.

Doesn't help that she has a large arm length tattoo which are typical for gang members. I'm sure it had to be run through a database for matches.

Do You think it was because of Your; Pakistani heart, British Education, American brain or Islamic Values?

P.S. Yes I read Your biography.. *

Being stopped is one thing but being handcuffed is truly astonishing.
That isn’t done without reason usually.

Fortunately, since I have never encountered this situation throughout my immigrant experience (GC to Citizen) even though I was at one point traveling every week I cannot speak for others.

Her van full of stuff made them suspicious...especially when she said she wasn't happy about pulling it all out (
a really bad idea to say that) ...and they replied basically we have all the time in the world....so she got the whole 9 yards of the searching.

But handcuffing a "guest"/tourist without any due cause at the country border and she has millions of followers.

US gov should pay a compensation every time they put an innocent person through an ordeal.

This WBUR reporter for National Public Radio got handcuffed too while crossing the Canadian border

Everything was fine before 9/11. Back in the 90's my friend was able to get back into the country without any ID because he had it all stolen in Cancun. I just vouched for him. They didn't even call any of his relatives.

In the 80's people could get on a plane and fly to Canada and back without even needing an ID. Just the boarding pass was enough. In fact I think it was only after the Pan-Am Lockerbie bombing in 1988 that they actually started scanning your carry-on bags. Before that I think you just walked through a simple metal detector and that was it. I don't even think they asked you to open anything. You probably have a harder time getting into DisneyWorld today then getting on a plane back then.

Now people end up in handcuffs.

Yeah
You also want to be very straight and to the point with these guys. No “I protest” or “I don’t like this”.

Unless you are aware of the right being violated - cooperate but don’t divulge needlessly.. i.e. no small talk and excessive dump of info. And in case you feel you are being harassed - ask for supervisor, go through the gauntlet but have a legal team available.
More often than not it comes in your favor
