Well what I read was that corps commanders wanted a coup but Karamat did want to go against the will ofthe people (an elected government) and hence resigned.

Musharraf who succeeded Karamat did a coup making the corps commanders happy.

26-Nov to 2-Dec 1997
PM Nawaz Sharif visits China to acquire Chinese commitment to the FC-1 program and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is inked.

February 1998
A Letter of Intent or MOU for the design and joint development leading to manufacture of a multirole fighter aircraft between China and Pakistan is signed.

February 1999: PM Nawaz Sharif paid a working visit to China and a further contract was signed.

20 April 1999: PM Nawaz Sharif visits Russia, first head of state since 1974 for a three day visit (RD-93 engine Is discussed?)

28-30 June 1999: During PM Nawaz Sharif's second three-day visit to China, formal contract to co-develop and manufacture FC-1 was signed.

In regards to how many were produced, you are talking rubbish.

Between 2003-2008, a total of 14 aircraft were built.
Between 2013-3018, a total of 66 aircraft were built.

Here's the breakdown
2003-2006, 6 Block-1 prototypes.
2007-2008, 8 Block-1s for the PAF.

2013-2014, 8 Block-1s for the PAF.
2015-2018, 56 Block-2s for the PAF.
2017, 1 Block-2 Bravo prototype.
2017, 1 Block-2 Bravo for the PAF.
2017, 6 Block-2As and 1 Block-2B for Myanmar.
