I hate tourists...we currently go down...

The mass influx of tourists into italy this year has some negative side effects.
Few days ago Venice virtually collapsed under the tourism masses and in the last days my hometown Lucca starts to burst...

We had some bad weather days...that means many beach tourists looked for alternative destinations. Since Pisa and Fireze already are overwhelmed by tourists and La Spezia has not much to offer...many thought its a great idea to come to Lucca...

to understand this you must know what Lucca looks like...its a Renaissance city even with city walls around it.

The streets are narrow and symetrical..

Now that we have so much people flood in the city the streets are virtually closed down by hordes of people. They are evrywhere. You step out a house and they carry you with them like a river. You cant do anything outside without being bothered.

One friend of me said its like that scene in Jerusalem in World War Z...

Seriously i usually go jogging or biking on the city walls at dawn before work as cardio. Its impossible now even at very early hours.

I´m in a reenacment group and my comrades and i portray renaissance city guards. We are not for photos but for cultural events. A bank here had a event and we were present..."guarding" the entrance of the Rotunda. And again and again people stand next us to make pictures and so on.. Its all fun and games for a few minutes but gets extremly annoying over time when random people pull on you without any respect.

God help us if this continous...

We plan to make a solution because this is unbearable for the people here. Like selling Tickets so only a limited number of people can visit and enter the city. But i have no clue how this will work. Our luck is our wall and that you can enter the city only through the main gates. That way acess can be limited. Our city council wants meet tomorrow to make a solution for this. .. excited what "solution" they find.

We stayed in Firenze and moved from one city to another by train every day. So it was one day in Lucca.

awesome. I want your opinion. Many say Lucca is the secret gem since most people go Pisa and Firenze but dont even know Lucca. But those who visit here say Lucca is by far the best.

I tend to agree. Firenze is far larger city and it is hard to compare, but Pisa didn't impress me much, unlike Lucca.

You might hate them,but they contribute to the local economy (also national economy) keep and even create jobs.
Of course those working in the tourism industry (and benefiting from tourism) will see all those people as an opportunity not as a burden.

Sounds like Walt Disney World at Christmas break:

The staff handle it pretty well. So if Lucca signs up with the Disney folks, I'm sure they can take care of everything. You'll become Disneyfied, and you get to put a Mickey on your flag, kinda like this:

I just got back from Italy last month. The only reason I went was to admire the ancient Roman ruins. I was not too impressed with Naples, felt like a 3rd world country with crappy pizza. Flounce was more developed but boring as heck after the first day. Rome was nice, but you never know when you will be robed.

Tourism contributes greatly to the economy, in this regard Italy is blessed. But I can understand the annoyance, we suffer the occasional meltdown in London as well, but then such disgruntled thoughts are quickly whisked away when we remember such folks have come all the way to see the country and appreciate its culture and beauty.
