Hungary's PM Orban: 'Islamization' banned by constitution

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Hungary's prime minister is insisting that the country's constitution bans "Islamization" because the document aims to protect Hungarian language and culture.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban also says the constitution forces the government to oppose any kind of mass migration that would endanger those principles. He was speaking Monday in parliament at an event celebrating the fifth anniversary of Hungary's new constitution.

Orban says "to be clear and unequivocal, I can say that Islamization is constitutionally banned in Hungary."

Hungary has built razor-wire fences on its southern borders to stop migrants from passing through to other European nations. Orban has said he wants "zero" migrants in the East European nation.

Before the fences, nearly 400,000 migrants entered Hungary in 2015 on their way to richer nations in Western Europe.

Sorry no disrespect but who even wants to hear what the constitution of an irrelevant, backwater, unknown country like Hungary says? Who is migrating to hungary to begin with?

And what Islamization? Islamic Civilization/culture has expanded throughout the heartlands of Europe. Islam is an inevitable part of Europe now. Was Orban sleeping all these years?

I don't understand his statement, especially since none of these migrants want to settle there. They all want to come to Western European states, ironically the same thing Hungarians are doing....

The eastern part of Europe is just like one of those wanna be guys.

Honestly speaking this Orban and his policies has done more damage to country than any immigration could ever, plus nobody wants to stay in that country anyway, Hes justing using those old soviet style tactics to deflect from the real issues his country is facing

I thought it were Syrians trying to avoid civil war in their land...just like European "beggars" were given refuge in Muslim lands throughout history...

Yes, geography is a bitch for these little punny states of Eastern Europe. Geographically, they lied nearer to great Islamic superpowers like the Ottomans and communist Soviet Union in modern times.

Hence no wonder these client states were absolutely dominated, conquered, and "used" by Turks, Russians---you name it.

I see why they are so bitter now

Funny part is, Turkey is still the most dominant and powerful grand republic in Eastern and Central Europe. One division of Turkish land forces would be more than enough to utterly run over Hungary (and Romania too btw ). But Turks are the biggest European contributors to NATO and NATO protect everything. Hence, status quo is optimal to Turkey....as these punny states can cry all they want--but wouldn't do anything to hurt the existing EU-NATO order in the region.

Guys, whatever your views, here are a few observations on southern Europe.

1. Unlike northern Europe, where Islam was historically seen as an, exotic, alluring item, southern Europe was at war, and at times occupied by the Muslims (Ottoman empire). Needless to say, the 'crimes' of these occupations, real or imagined, have been taught to every schoolchild.There is a real feeling of threat.

2.After the Iron curtain fell, good hearted Muslims from the Arab world helped fund large mosques and madrassahs. The impoverished locals were jealous that the local Muslims had such plush buildings, while they couldn't even repair their crumbling old churches. This created a lot of jealousy.

3.The present racial tolerance that Northern Europe has, has been developed over many years. Southern Europe, and eastern Europe generally, is where the west was 40 years ago.
