Wagah (Punjab): A huge quantity of drugs and ammunition were recovered from the Samjhauta Express train at the Wagah border in Punjab during a checking the Indian security forces. Officials say that 101 kg of heroin worth Rs 505 crore and 500 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the train. Officials have not disclosed the type of ammunition.
The train was going to Delhi Junction from Pakistan. The contraband was seized when the materials were being kept in godown after being off loaded from the train at the Wagah station on Monday. The heroin was packed in 101 packets of 1 kg each and they had Pakistani markings on them.
Police officials say the recovery is a very serious thing and several attempts are being made to revive militancy in Punjab. Top police officials say a large quantity of drugs is making its way into Punjab not only from Pakistan but also from neighbouring states. They say that Punjab has become a major transit point from drugs that are sent to different parts of the country and also to overseas markets.
