Huawei Technologies Co. has asked Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Hynix Inc. for a stable memory chip supply despite apparently mounting pressure from the U.S. to isolate the Chinese telecommunications company, the Korea Economic Daily reported.

The Shenzhen-based company called in senior officials at the two South Korean chipmakers’ Chinese units to request a stable supply of the chips regardless of the recent U.S. government move, the report said, citing unidentified industry sources. Huawei is one of the five biggest clients for Samsung and SK Hynix, spending around 10 trillion won ($8.1 billion) to buy DRAM and NAND flash memory chips from the Korean companies every year, the newspaper said.

The request comes amid rising pressure against global suppliers after U.S. President Donald Trump barred any chipmaker using American equipment from supplying Huawei without U.S. government approval.

While memory chip makers aren’t subject to the U.S. government restrictions, Huawei worries that the Trump administration could widen its restrictions later, according to the report.

As the two South Korean companies supply more than 70% of the DRAM memory chips globally, including them in any U.S. action would threaten the survival of the Chinese company, said the newspaper. It cited an industry official it didn’t identify as saying that Huawei is quickly building its memory-chip inventory in preparation of a worse scenario.

Why Samsung still can sell chips to Hwei ?? It should be banned like TSMC.

.
Well geniuses, you do know Ymtc makes memory too? You can keep trying to kill Huawei, they still own 5G patents, just buying time for Trump to lose the elections then its time to ramp up production. I heard the virus is getting even more serious today? Start injecting klorox yey.

China manufacturing has no future you should accelerate the economy to domestic consumption based economy.

A smartphone has hundreds of components. A car has thousands of components. It’s impossible to make them all domestically. Even a hightec country as Germany stopped automobile production because of standstill in some cities in North Italy. Everybody relies on everybody. It’s you who believes you can do alone.
Mark my word, after attacking Huawei, the US will find ways to stop chinese car industry, smartphone production, computer assembly.

The US only needs to sanction one component that China can’t make then voila...China miracles come to end.

You can laugh all days.

but note the more the US feels wounded the more harder the US will respond.

A space station, a supercomputer or a rocket have even more parts.
If China can catch up on those after 2 decades, I think China can overcome this as well.
If you guys success, there will be a market for US alternative technologies or at least a backup.
Let's see if China can rise from this trouble, the reward will be huge.

Not nervous at all.

SMIC 7nm-class N+1 node will begin production in Q4 2020.

Nanya and CXMT are both gearing up to enter volume production of their 10nm-class DRAM chips in the second half of 2020.

YMTC formally launched 128-layer 3D-NAND flash memory chips last month.

Nervous would be 38.6 million jobless in nine weeks.

Even more nervous would be the people in Midland, Michigan.

Fake report. It's actually samsung who come to Huawei and volunteer to fill in the void and ask for Huawei order.

I will not trust anything posted by Bloomberg about China or Huawei. These CIA media is posting a lot of bogus report with no verification.

Samsung used their own technology to make chips. And nobody refuse money. :enjoy:

Who says we are not investing in domestic consumption? We are already the largest consumer On Earth. There are ways we can hurt US even more but we chose not yo disrupt the system and wait till elections are over.

Manufacturing is not dead, low end manufacturing is. For the past 5 years, we encourage polluting low end manufacturers to move to Vietnam, etc.

You would be stupid to think we can't make everything ourselves, we do make every single car component FYI. Same as missiles and rockets and supercomputers, sanctions only made us more independent. What has history taught you? We will never yield unlike Vietnam who yields to any power. Lol

You realise why Samsung heir came to China? The Koreans are very smart, they know what to do when the old empire rises again. Those who don't realise the change will end up destroyed.

There is only 2 cards left for US to play, semiconductor equipment and aircraft engines. Aircraft engines is not that critical but semiconductor equipment will take another 10 years, the nodes will stop at. 1.5nm and then go quantum.

Btw, Samsung chips Exynos is bad.no one like it in VN.

Samsung is not the best chip maker like TSMC

This I agree, their 5nm is not matured, that's why they want alliance with Huawei.

. .
that's the whole point. This is Samsung's opportunity.
SKorea is ruled by US after Korean war. Seem like US just wanna see what Samsung can do first.

If Samsung can make good chips then US will force her stop selling to CN. Meanwhile, its Exynos chips r still too bad.

No, that is due to Exynos chip design rather than Samsung's chip fabrication.
