A fascinating BBC documentary that portrays the deep hate between the various factions in the Muslim world and the cynical use of media to deliver hate and violence.

.
I think the group of politicians known as the New Cons (new conservatives) during Bush Administration has contributed to this mess. From the first minute they landed in Iraq they declared a secetarian government and turned blind eye on Iran's growing influence in Iraq. The rest is what we see today.

The invasion of Iraq was a catastrophe no doubt but Saddam would have been overthrown eventually.

. .
it is all about Iran , anytime everywhere LOL
if people in KSA or gulf states are fanatics, it is all because of Iran
if Palestine is suffering it is all because of Iran
Egypt problems? Iran
Africa ? Iran
Obama elections ? all because of Iran
LOL

The fault lines were there before !
The Shias were also long oppressed under Saddam who was largely supported by Iraqi Sunnies.
This post war scenario of sectarian politics was to be expected hence perhaps dividing Iraq or making it a confederation could have been done to reduce this level of violence.

.
Sunnis and Shias have a history of conflict.

The invasion of Iraq just opened the existing wounds and Iran's behaviour (emboldened by the fall of Saddam) has fanned the flames.

I don't believe that
Just look at Assad with 90% of the country against him and rebels supported by all regional powers yet still clinging on.
The Iraqi army was much more professional and perhaps even more brutal....
The Sunni population would have supported him and the Gulf states knowing that his removal would lead to a vacuum for Iran to fill would have been hesitant to extend any support to the rebels.
The U.S knew this hence probably the invasion ;)

Those of you who are responded are doing the sectarian extremism that is eating us from inside. Fear GOD and stop fuming the sectarian flames!

Read this:

"100-year war is needed between the two houses of Islam (Sunni and Shia)." -- Dr Henry Kissinger.

4.6 million Syrians forced out of the country
Another 7 million internally displaced....
I don't think anyone likes barrel bombs being dropped on them
Alawites make up about 12% of the Syrian population so yeah maybe you are right it shouldn't be 90%
Anyways lets ask an actual Syrian about this
@Dr.Thrax I know you would have been asked this question a million times but in all honesty how many Syrians support Assad??

Though I like @The SiLent crY 's politeness and well-mannered personality, he tends to be apologetic and defensive for the Mullahs regime. He is wrongly thinking that it is the proper way to be nationalistic. In fact, the harm the Mullahs are doing to Iran itself far exceeds what external enemies combined can do. The Mullahs are basically ruining it all, and turning it up side down. This is a very similar internal destruction that was committed by Saddam, Asad, and Qadafi. All adopted defensive cheap propaganda, all left the state they governed with incurable wounds.

Not many. Around ~20% max. Most are people who benefit from having him in office, or are fear-mongering.

The post in this thread show how sectarian we are .
