Well as far as Pakistan is concerned we have different customs in different regions
I will start from my city and province.
Here in my city a groom is the most affected side in a marriage because
1. He has buy the bride Gold ornaments at least 5 tolas and maximum 25/50 and 100 and above in few cases depends on the financial condition or depends on the demand of the bride as a security for the girl. But 5-6 tolas (72 grams of 24K gold) is a must.
2.In most of the cases the bride family also demands land for her be it 2 or 5 or 3 marlas. which is written in the marriage document sealed by the law.
3. He has to pay the mehr as well at least 2 lakhs (200,000)PKR and it could be maximum to 10 lakhs.
4. He has to agree to monthly pocket money to the wife after marriage as an extra measure fully documented in the nikah affidavit. This is apart from other basic amenities.
5. and the function of waliema/mehndi/Music (lolllzz this can cost atleast 3 lakhs.
6.wedding dress of the bride (lehnga) the most cheap one is at Rs15000- to 25,000 and good one is of Rs200,000. then at least 20 other fancy suits for her.
7. Make up accessories + shoes = at least Rs30,000
his own sherwani and dresses for his own family
8. the wedding night gift (a gold ring or chain or bracelet)
Now may be the same is in Pakistani punjab but there the bride family is more burdened as groom's side demands dowry while in my province the groom is more burdened
