The bargaining chips are with India. And we are not at seriously disadvantaged vis a vis China. India is at a sweet spot. No need to pick up a fight with China and loose our goals. As I said Chinese target in not India but US.

India can't win war with China .
They have all traditional advantages that a Superior party enjoys .

We have already made lots of blunders . We gave away our sovereign rights in Tibet and got back nothing in exchange ...

we lost 5000 sq km territory in Aksai China and we can't do anything about it .

China made Arunachal pradesh as a issue after silence of 40 years and we did nothing .

China has armed Pakistan sufficiently to make any conflict with China - a two front war .

In any future war with China - be assured that Pakistan will jump in - because that will her only chance to venge all past defeats .

Diplomatically China has more clout in world due to its economic might too .

China has more than one bargaining chips with India in event of any military stand off ...

But what is the bargaining chip that China holds against India? Can they influence our investment flow? can they put sanctions? can they influence our economic development? can they deny us any technology? can they influence us to give up AP? can they stop trading with us?

Unless India participate in MSR it will not succeed . and that's why when China's direct proposal to India to participate in MSR was sent in cold storage ...it has come up with this new proposal.

Currently china is boxed in SCS and the current strategy is to keep it there. Rest is just fear mongering.

South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Australia are all looking to oppose China. Not to mention US in Dieo garcia. Its easier to tie them up in an anti china alliance when the need arise.

Till the need arise, India is playing both sides. That is the way it should be done.
