How can India be BFFs with both Russia and the United States?

That is not possible anymore, days india milking both side are long gone. In fact, india seems to choose the side already, didn't you get the hint? Washington did get the memo though.

:rofl::rofl:

it has only started my friend..USA got Apache,C-130,C-17 contract,Russia got KA-226T,Reactor and SSN contract..India wins in both cases..

you can only milk them when you're pretty much important for them.India, the home of 1.3 billion, its arms market is attractive and no wonder we're getting so much importance. :D

Follow the money. Money = Milk.

I've noticed that many posters here tend to make their comments hastily and with their set of bias in mind.

This question is not about IF India can manage the relationships, rather if their partners are willing to put in the time and effort to gain India's trust.

The onus is on the US and Russia in this case. From the US perspective, and I can only speak to that, we have a lot of patience and desire to work with India. India is of important strategic value for the US and we are quite willing to put in the effort to gain its trust. This does not mean we will not have some hitches or pain points in the mutual relationship.

We also have no delusions about the U.S/India relationship nor do we seek an absolute relationship in this global environment. We want Russia to continue its relationship with India as it works in everyone's favor.

Exactly !!

India will not be able to have love affair with both Russia and US at the same time for long, they will have to ditch one love affair to just friend level and that is obviously Russia.

Besides I don't think it's a zero sum game anymore. There is an expansionist aspect of Russia that's a bummer, but otherwise all their posturing seems focused on securing economic interetts, especially defence contracts.

When it comes to diplomacy, India's prowess is beyond the comprehension of the most....

You are talking about a nation that currently has steady stream of military ties with Russia, US, UK, Israel, Ukraine, japan and France and all of them are willing to do more with time.

This is the same nation that does business with Israel, KSA and Iran with the utmost ease..India has never opted to fight as proxies for others dollars, pounds or rubles, and the rest of the world understands that.

The only camp we belong to India's camp, We chose not to view the world polarized geo political landscape, our policy is was and always will be India first which is a radically alien concept to most proxy powers in the world, and thus incomprehensible.

When you are preaching diplomacy and international relations to India, you are speaking way, way out of your league.

The world is changing fast and India was not candidate of becoming a power in world arena in 70s to 90s now they are, and game change when that happened, remember how US made Japan a power in Asia and then destroyed them in WW2, that is how world power use pawns.

Both Russia and the U.S.A. are important allies to India at the present global political arena.Russia is a long term ally and a close friend while the U.S.A. has also become a close friend of our country since the last decade. We are a politically neutral country and this has been our stance since the early 1950s barring a few decades when we became aligned to the USSR.This Narendra Modi led new Govt. also following our previous neutral stance as this is the only way we can secure our national interest.Plus we have got the past experience of maintaining a similar type of friendship with both Israel and Iran who are mortal enemies of one another. So i don't think India will face any substantial challenge in maintaining friendship with both Russia and the U.S.A. in the near future. @DRAY bhai, what's your take in this matter???

Well it is the 21st century, India is not Japan, not a monarchy, and India is not a gullible power, as I said, India's policy is always India First. We will treat every power with respect and cooperation which furthers our own goals.

World will not remain unipolar in future as it is now, the US knows it will lose its grip and dominance over world issues and they need pawn powers to do their police man job, and India's way of dealing with US is clearly showing that they want to be US police man in South Asia to contain China, here problem lies for India as Russia can't allow containment of China as it is its main ally and future force in creating mult polar world with Russia.

India has a lot to offer to the world, in all aspects including economy, education, research, democracy etc etc, while very little in terms of nuisance value, it has good to excellent relations with every country in the world - the only states it has a problem with is Pakistan and China and there's no surprises there and no country in the world is worried about that animosity other than the scare that Pakistan being someone who could trigger a nuclear war.

No country in the world feels threatened by India nor by India's growth and no country has dire issues with India other than the two that I mentioned and frankly that's expected - one is a religious entity that is ruled by it's military and the other is a communist country ruled by a single party and both have their own goals for expansionism.

So, I don't see a reason why any country in the world would not want to have excellent relations with us which will be beneficial to them in all respects.

Really, then why so many westerners don't like Indians?? specially in Australia? and once again you forgot that India was not a power then now they want to be a power and assert their military capabilities in the region specially in Indian Ocean that will make many countries worry.

lol, I guess you missed the India - Australia bonhomie lately, we are strategic partners now. As for the Indian navy - we are preempting and taking necessary actions in the Indian Ocean to prevent a repeat of what your BFF did in South China Sea.
